I am guessing the water level of the lake went up (or down after filling all 16 of those sacs).

I would think while the engine is off water could enter the exhaust manifolds then cylinders with it submerged that far. The engine can't be much above the water line.

actually the 2001 has a problem when you put it too far under water. Back presure causes the engine to smoke. it turn the entire back of the boat black. It really sucks, Ive been lookin into the issue and how to overcome it. It even talks about it in the 2001 manual

In stead of "World Record Towboats" it should read: "World Record Ballast Weight"

Boats are kind of funny... Like a cork when more of the boat is under water than above the water they have a tendancy to roll over. I would say the silver 2001 is very close to that point.

One day when my 1995 Ski Nautique was heavily loaded (about 2500lbs weight and crew) it started behaving very differently. Things like rolling the wrong direction in a turn, it was pretty scary. I decided to sell it before I sunk it. Stepped up to a V-drive 211.

Even with this much weight the exhaust manifolds are still well above the water line outside the boat. The engine is about 4" forward and 4" higher than the motor it replaced.Upload

I sold the boat in less than a week. As for price you need to ask the owner. Upload
