I am looking into getting a new VLX. I will probably be ordering it. What do you consider necessaties and what could you live without? Thanks! I dont really see where I would need the MLS or the exhaust tips.

...or should I say what "bling" could YOU do without.

Stainless exhaust tips, power wedge, polished manual wedge, billet glove box door, tower lights (pretty much useless anyways). Definetely get the MLS you really need the bow ballast. The VLX really likes weight up front. You will regret it if you don't get it. You could also do a stereo delete if you're ordering it, that will save you some money and you could build your own better for less money. The above has just been my experience from owning this boat.

Are you trying to lower the price?

If so you might do better negotiating on a boat that is in stock. They need to move boats on the lot. Special order is where they get you.

Get the wedge installed from the factory. If you want the power wedge this is the only time you'll get it as they won't retrofit it later. The rest can be added later as money permits.

I think the new floating wedge is going to perform better than the power wedge with much less issues.

05mobius- Curious but what issues have you heard of thus far with the power wedge?

Mechanical/electrical issues. Call up your local dealer's service department and ask if they've had any in there getting worked on.

I'd skip the interior before I'd skip the MLS.... Have you considered buying used instead if you are looking to save coin. If you go through a credit union you should be able to get the same interest rates.

I'm extremely picky about the exterior/interior color so thats the main reason for ordering. I've never seen a good used one with the color that I want. I know, sounds crazy but if I'm gonna spend 40-60k on a boat then I want to LOVE the color.

IMO Bow tank is absolutely required on that boat, both for your performance and resale reasons.

get the power wedge it is a must have if you wakeboard or surf. You can change the wake shape so much with the push of a button!

The dealership I bought mine from had some boats that were coming back with problems with the power wedges.

So what price tag is everybody seeing/hearing on the new VLX's? Out the door price? I know there are alot of factors involved but what have you seen? Thanks!

i would not get the stero and speakers..
reason is cause if you have any plans on putting in a system you can spend the $1500.00 on your stero and not the sony crap

my wedge works flawlessly and even if it had to be worked on it would still be worth it!
get the speakers if not you will have to cut the holes in the dash and that is a pain.

Most companies will cut the holes and wire the stereo for you but leave the speakers out. Then hunt for really good deals on better speakers than sonys

The speaker holes will be there you just have to cut the vinyl in the dash and bow yourself.

Does anyone wakeboard with the power wedge in other other position besides all the way down? I was told the midway positions were worthless.

No?

I use the power wedge in the two click up from full down position when wakeboarding, I love the way that it shapes the wake.

Most of the guys I ride with like the wake with the wedge up just a hair.
Old     (twowakes)      Join Date: Feb 2003       02-07-2007, 3:44 PM Reply
it adjusts depending on how steep you want the wake to be
the further up you put it the steeper your Wake.
I am a big fan of weighting the boat, i own a ballast company, but with weight and the wedge it is so versatile.

Wheel/tire bling is just bling and does nothing but look cool. Trailering with non 6 ply tires is pretty much a bad idea.

Not much you can live without and have resale. Power wedge is nice, adjusting yourself is okay. Heater is not a necessity, but nice on cool days. Stereo is a "big" cost. Keep the trailer basic. No flip up bow light. Basic racks. Bimini is a must. MLS is a must TRUST ME! I have a really nice 06 VLX loaded if your interested and it's sharp! Malibu is using Rockford Fosgate now and it sounds good!

Thanks! I was kinda thinking the same thing. Nice boat Mike!! How hard is it to keep that black clean? I'm thinking about going with a solid silver boat with a little black.

Dump the carpet. Carpet sucks and does not mix with water. Why in the hell do boats come with carpet in the first place???
