I have no idea where to start looking for a place to buy lead locally. what kind of business sales lead? Also, how much are you guys paying for lead?

Scuba shop. Increments are 2-4-5-10 pounds, straight, plastic coated, or shot in bags...

I konw where you can get some for free. Just look at he bottom of your local lake - it'll be tucked into an overloaded boat that took a wave over the bow. Negative buoyancy is a bad thing...

Thanks for the ideas guys! I was thinking about large bricks of it (50-75 lbs) but I guess I could fill bags up. We wont be trailering the boat but we do have it on a lift and the lift broke last year with no ballast in the boat. Maybe smaller would be better

you can melt the weights down and make bricks out of them. someone on here posted a how-to

One more: For you guys using lots of small weights, what do you put the lead in on the boat? I was thinking some canvas bags, maybe 50 lbs a peice to make them mobile and easier to customize ballast. Anyone know where to buy some plain canvas bags or any other suggestions? later, Clay
