I have an '03 Wakesetrer VLX and I'm wondering how much weight any of you have been able to put in a permenant installation in the back side compartments and ski locker compartments. Also, what kind of bags did you use.

We had roughly 3200 pounds in ours. We used the stock ballast, plus about 1500 in lead. Some days we even put another sac in the bow. The wake was frickin huge. Very nice. Just play around with it. We didn't use the wedge at all. We put about 900 in the rear lockers and the rest up front. Worked out well. I wouldn't use lead if you have to trailer the boat any long distance though. Good luck.

I've got a 600lb bag in each locker with the factory tanks removed. Works very well for me. Factory center ballast and another 600lb in the bow for a giant wake.

3200 lbs.? Factory ballast is 1100 lbs. "plus about 1500 lbs. in lead" = 2600lbs.

Is my math bad?

Alan, you missed the "Some days we even put another sac in the bow" part.

I have a '99 VLX and have found that 2500 lbs. is about the best. Too much weight more than that really makes driving more difficult. I have 1000 lbs. hard weight and 1500 lbs. wet weight. and no wedge.

Where exactly would you put 1000 to 1500 pounds of lead. Are you able to fit it in storage compartments? Also, where do you get that much lead?

alan, you also forgot that there might have been 4-5 people equalling (speeling lol?) 700lbs.

Thanks guys I knew I was missing something.

I would go a prop size down too if you plan on that much weight.

HELP ME OUT! WHAT DOES GOING A PROP SIZE DOWN DO FOR A BOAT WITH MORE WEIGHT?

With the pre 2005 VLX at least, it makes a big difference getting on plane and holding speed. The stock (14X18) props are almost useless after you get over 2000 lbs in ballast. It also seems that the Acme props seem to work better than the OJ props on heavilly weighted boats

Yes we changed the prop.....we had too. Each lead bar was about 65 pounds each. We put 6 on the floor of each of the rear lockers. The rest we put in the bow. If we had 2-3 people riding, we added another sack to the back seat or the bow. Most times it was on the back seat. The wake was very big. It took quite some time to find the right combo. I believe that we had a 13X16.5 on the boat, usually ran around 3300 rpm. Hope it helps.
