Hi all. Well I just ordered my new receiver, going with the Alpine CDA 9825. 18 watt continuous, 3 (4 volt) preamps, subwoofer preamp, 50 watt peak 4 channel.

I want 2 speakers in dash of boat, 2 speakers in rear of boat.
1 sub
1 amp for sub
1 amp for speakers

Let's start with some speakers. How powerful and what am I looking for in them?

I'm just looking to hear some tunes, not rock the lake.

I use Bose for my in-boat speakers. They sound really good. They may not get as loud as some of the other more expensive brands, but they work good for me. For the sub, get a kicker, or MTX. Amps, How much do you want to spend? Cheaper amps will work pretty good, but a real nice one can make all the difference.

right now there are two Pioneer TS-G1647 in the dash.
RMS power range: 2-30watts
peak power: 150 watts
2 way

Will these work or should I get stronger ones?

Getting the 9827 is worth it, unless you have an iPod and plan on adding the KCA-420i. Since you'll be running external amps on all the speakers (which is essential in a boat application), the decks built in amplifier section is worthless.

You should look at upgrading those speakers. You can get a decent set of 6.5s that will handle 50W RMS and if you use a good quality amp you will notice a huge difference in sound quality.

Ronia Savage ~ RMS is true watts and whatever you get make sure that the RMS on the amps match or surpass the RMS on the speaker!
If your speaker says 100 RMS your amp needs to match or surpass RMS on the speakers otherwise you are better of gettin lower power speakers.your speakers sound the best if you put the max RMS into them weather it be 30 RMS or 150 RMS!

Example ~ When a sony explod says 800watts,that is a selling gimmic and your true power(watts) is measured in RMS so that sony explod might give you half of that or even less!!
