Wow I expected the first hate post to take a little longer than this. You'd rather see a big, slow, grabbed, backside 180 in the flats, right?

"Wow I expected the first hate post to take a little longer than this. You'd rather see a big, slow, grabbed, backside 180 in the flats, right?" Haha, that backside 180 in the flats line never gets old, does it? I'd use it more if I were you... And that wasn't a "hate post." If I wanted to make a "Hate Post" I would have said that although it was a clean landing, it looked like an epileptic seizure with a weak grab. Not to mention the fact that wrapped tricks are the wakeboarding equivalent of a grown man using emoticons on a messageboard. But I'm not hating because I think Aaron Rathy is a pretty sick rider.

"that is cool that somebody landed a new trick behind a nautique. don't know if that's ever been done." Thats funny. Its kinda like when Harf did the 1260. The video on the nautique web site made it seem like he did it behind his 230 even though it was behind a malibu. "Wow I expected the first hate post to take a little longer than this. You'd rather see a big, slow, grabbed, backside 180 in the flats, right?" No, I think alot of people in and outside the wakeboarding community respect big stylish moves rather than pure shock value tricks. Last year I remember a friend brought a burton guy out on the boat to chill and even though 7's and banger tricks were thrown he was most pumped on a nice stalled out indy poke BS 180. In my opinion wrapped tricks are a good way to learn things and good for having fun and just doing something different. But when someone lands a new trick and its done wrapped there will be haters. Actually, let me re phase that. Anytime you do anything there will be haters. Anyways, the trick is insane and it is a big accomplishment for Rathy. (Message edited by eyekahn on July 08, 2009)

It is funny when people hate on wrapped tricks making them sound so much easier. the truth is they are a little harder because the cut is awkward. the best thing about wrapped tricks is being able to grab a little longer than you can with handle passing.

I know somebody else mentioned it, then said j/k, but COME ON Rathy throw on a vest. Seriously, a trick like that at dusk, if he gets knocked out he's dead! This sport doesn't need to see another rising young star go down in flames, when it can be avoided. Sick looking trick!

Why is wrapped so lame? Randall does it, Harf does it, all the "stylish" riders incorporate it in their unique way. Randall does the sickest Heel Indy 3 that he grabs the entire rotation, what is wrong with that? It allows you to grab for an extended period and put a good poke on a fun trick. Props to Aaron, he's a cool guy too.

Wrapped stuff just looks stupid to me for the most part. I definitely agree that some guys can make it look cool (Randy Harris, Billy McKee, Danny Harf, probably a few more...) and it does allow for long grabs and pokes and stuff, but most of the time, when the majority of people do them, it just looks like an awkward spin. Plus, it's the new hot thing to do now, and just like every other fad in wakeboarding, everyone and their cousin is going to be trying wrapped stuff 24/7 and it's going to get played out just like it did ten years ago when Hardline first came out with the double handle and wrapped tricks were all the rage for a summer. I will say that wrapped stuff isn't necessarily easier; I wasn't trying to give that impression. I just think it looks dumb.

True, but if something is cool for a summer, then nobody cares about it anymore, then everyone loves it again ten years later, it's popular in phases. Hence the term "phase." The term "Fad" would also be appropriate. It's kind of like bell bottoms. They were all the rage, then nobody wore them for a while, then they were all the rage again, and now nobody wears them anymore (I don't think). Wrapped tricks are the bell bottoms of wakeboarding.

Chris, I agree with you man. I think the if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all rule needs to come into play. If you don't like the way it looks then when you land your backside 9's handle pass them.

I think that's the joy of internet discussion boards and chat rooms. Everybody can play jerk and tough guy without the consequence of alienating potential friends and without the possibility of receiving a nice beat down from the guy you just mouthed off to.

Chris, I'm afraid I'm not following you. I never once said anything to "put anyone in their place" or "talk cr*p" about anyone. The problem is whenever you guys hear a difference in opinion, you confuse it with hating. I know I'm not one of the "cool guys" on here and I also realize that thoughts don't always translate over the internet that well, but it's crazy how quick you guys are to jump on someone for saying that they feel different than you about something and dismiss them as haters.

You do realize that you guys are just proving my point, right? When did I ever talk bad about anyone or act like a tough guy? I said I didn't like wrapped tricks. If that runs me the "possibility of receiving a nice beat down," then someone has drastically overreacted. And Riley, don't flatter yourself; I don't hold enough stock in any of your opinions to change my tone on anything, especially something as dumb as whether or not wrapped tricks are cool. Sorry for ruining the party guys.

OKAY WTF is Wind in the whole USA today or what?? Can no one ride? I have never seen so much hate on this site in the last week (I am not claiming to not be guilty of this). People can't even freak out about how sick a BS 9 is wrapped or un-wrapped, without a fight breaking out. Fact of the matter is, NO HAS EVER DONE A BS 9 off the wake BEFORE! EVER!!! Give props where props is due- That was sick, he spins and grabs a 900 in just over a second, thats bad ass.

Its crazy how one persons opinion gets everyone's panties in a bunch. Anthem has his views and never said anything about Rathy or his tricks( I personally know he thinks the guy rips) just that he hopes wrapped tricks don't come back in style. And trust me anthem never changed his tone after a bunch of people did not interpret what he was saying the right way. He could give 2 sh*ts what anyone thinks on here. As he knows opinions are like as*holes and he takes nothing said on the internet, let alone a forum about people doing gymnastics moves over a overly expensive piece of fiberglass' displacement forum. He does not like wrapped tricks GET OVER IT. Now move on. I am sure there is another person's views on something someone does not like somewhere else...

Im with anthem here....I didnt realize it was a crime (or at least "hating") to have an opinion. That whole first amendment thing... Personally, I think its quite boring when everyone on a forum says the exact same thing or agrees for 100 posts. I keep reading expecting to find a different perspective, then I realize I just wasted thirty minutes. (Just to be clear: Im not saying its a bad thing to agree or have the same opinion, I just enjoy a different view more than an echo) Anyways, back to the OP...thats a sick trick! Very cool that he landed it, and different (being wrapped). Clean and grabbed too. Ill be honest, I think it would be cooler unwrapped but Im not trying to take anything away from him (I like wrapped tricks) because I love innovation. Way to go

I have never even seen a wrapped backside 5, or 7 - much less a wrapped backside GRABBED 9'r. Seriously, I have been doing this a LONG time and lord knows I havnt seen every section of every vid out there, but Ive been riding since the mid 90's and to have never seen a wrapped bs 5, the 9 is just RIDIC. Hence my first post saying "(which I seriously doubt)". I'll go ahead and call it - I bet we see atleast 3 more riders land PASSED bs 9's before we see someone else do a wake to wake wrapped bs 9. This coming from someone who doesn't do wrapped spins. Mad props Rathy.

It's not like the wrapped 9 is even cheating. He still makes A BUNCH of handle passes. Well not a bunch, but one at 5 then landing blind at 9. The hardest handle pass is definitely at the 5-7 too, the first handle pass is nothing for him. He could have stuck that trick handle passed with how much pop he got guaranteed. If anything, wrapping up would slow him down a little because of the slightly awkward position. I give that trick just as much credit as a handle pass back 9 being that he did grab it, which slows you down a TON I find.

I remember when he came out to shoot Delta Sessions with JD Webb and I have not real idea who he was. I was blown away at good he was back than and how cool. He through down pretty much every major invert, spin, mobe and with a ton of style in his warm up set. Than switch over to the wakeskate and killed it. He is a great kid with mad skills. I am so stoked to see he is finally getting his long deserving props.

so damn impressive plus i can see the possibility of a bs 10 the way hes throwing it anthem man youre just being ridiculous im sorry, its fine to have your opinion but really, the first BS 9 ever landed and the best response u have is "cant wait for this wrapped trick phase to be over" and "wrapped tricks are the bell bottoms of wakeboarding" Obviously its your intent to just stir some people up. Any rider of any value could appreciate such a difficult and sick move, regardless if they like wrapped tricks or not. I hate limited views on riding it seriously pisses me off. Have an opinion just show some frikkin respect
