I have an opportunity to buy a 2001 Mastercraft x-9 wake board edition (68 hours) and I am wondering whether the boat would be suitable for wake surfing? The boat has 2 ballast tanks and 2 new x series Fat sacs. I am new to the sport (44 years)and have 2 sons ages 14 and 16 who would like to learn. Is this the boat to learn and grow on or should I continue my search?

While that is a great boat with really low hours, I would think about looking elsewhere if you want to do much surfing. Maybe an X-2, X-10 or similar v-drive model.

X-9 is a decent wakeboard setup, and great ski setup...but (keeping in mind I have no first hand surf experience with this boat) I would imagine it is mediocre at best for surfing.

if you load it it can have a nice wake, we surf mine 10.7 mph with a slight curve...it's a great ride...I sitll salom ski-course, WB and now surf and granted you have to weight it up for surfin..it does the trick!

I learned to wakesurf behind an X 9 and didn't mind the wake at all. Some friends had one and the wife and kids could start on the swimstep with no rope and surf til they were too tired to go anymore. I think if you added some sacs to it it could be even better.
