What number do you set your kdw (this is what the manual said to adjust for turns) to slow the boat down on turns? When making a turn, the boat speeds up way too fast to be in a turn. Can't really figure out what numbers to adjust on it to slow it down in the turns. Any advice?

If the paddle wheel is on the side of the boat that is on the inside of the turn, then the boat will speed up. If the opposite is true, then the boat should slow down. Not like this helps you with your problem but it explains why the boat speeds up on turns. Note, if the paddle wheel was installed more towards the middle of the boat, then the speed change would be less on turns.

You have to develop the skill to feather the throttle on the turns to smooth them out. It takes some time to perfect.

You already slowing down in turns...why would you want to slow down anymore. The motor will rev up pretty high in turns b/c the PP is trying to hold speed. Similar to your auto crusie control going up a steep hill.

You can't really adjust the KDW to help that.

To refine waht GD said, the problem occurs because the paddle wheel doesn't properly read the boat's true speed in the turn. One possible explanation is that when the boat leans in the turn the water is deflected differently across the paddle wheel. It is possible that water from the keel gets deflected across the paddle wheel, making the Perfect Pass think you are going too fast and it slows the boat down. On the other hand, if water is deflected away from the paddle wheel it thinks you are going too slow and the boat speeds up to compensate.

The first boat I had with Perfect Pass (Air Nautique) didn't suffer from this at all. My current boat, a Super Air Nautique, speeds up on right hand turns and slows down on left hand turns.
