Stupid question:

I assume you can just hook the wires up to the Ground and power inputs to the deck? Then you can just mount the black box somewhere near the stereo head unit. How long is the white cable?

All the I-pod units are on back order, They should have some more units in 2 weeks. And Yes you hook up normal power and gound, The unit will keep charging the I-pod for up to 20 min's after the key is off.
Im guessing by the look of the photo the white cable is 2 or 3 feet long.

That's a great price. I went with the pac because it allowed me to control my ipod from my steering wheel controls. I think peripheral makes a model like this also.

Where can you find just the straight wire to plug in the auxillary in the back of the deck with a cradle for mounting in the boat?

I got my peripherale electronics I-pod cable. Firt it dosent look like the cable in the picture above,
#1 It has 2 cables comming from the I-pod imput, not 1 like shown in the picture
#2 The cable is black (no big deal)

So to clean things up I cut the RCA's off and put some plastic wire shield over the 2 cables making them into 1 and heat shrinked both end's then I put some new RCA end's on the cable and now Im ready to install.
Q: Did I need to do this? A: NO.
Q: Does it look and feel better A: Yes
Q: Should it have come this way in the first place A: Yes

G,

Looks great, you could also add a little slipper of vacuum hose over the cable to fill the gap in the back of the RCAs.
