Hey all, a friend of mine is thinking about buying a 99 Yamaha LS2000 Jetboat for wakeboarding. Being a jet boat i was wondering if it can throw a decent wake. I have never riden on or behing a jet boat so we are both a little sketchy about getting it for boarding. It has a tower and is in great shape with 75 hours on each motor. Of couse we would hook up plenty of ballast. If anyone has riden behind a jet boat and liked it or disliked it any feedback would be great. Thanks

Jake

What Jon said. If you wanna board, don't buy an overgrown jetski. for the 9 to 13K you spend on one of these goober boats you can buy:

These were just the first page of a boat trader search. All would be good entry level boats, some fairly high end on a budget. In the same price range as the jetski that your friend is looking at he can find himself a real wakeboard boat

The hull is designed for high-speed.
The motors are designed for high rpms.
The propulsion is designed for shallow water and high speed manuvering.

Except for the tower, nothing is designed for wakeboarding. Given that, what do you think? Buy for the use, not the "deal."

Better buy stock in an oil company too. Those things sucks gas to no end!

Being a current jet boat owner I have to chime in. What people say is true. Eats fuel (~ 40 gallons every 8-10 hours) hard to maintain speed, resale value sucks. When weighted to through a decent wake you loose valuable steering. If I had to do it over again I would have bought a V-drive. What initially influanced my buying dicision was lack of knowledge in regards to a good wakeboard boat. If you want a general family boat that you, or he, can have fun behind then go for it. If you want a good WAKEBOARD boat look elsewhere.
