I need to figure out how much of a drop hitch I need for the new truck, but my boat is at the river, so I can't measure the height of the trailer from the ground. What is the measurement from the ground to the bottom of your level trailer mount? I'm sure all trailers are a little different, but I'm just looking for a ballpark measurement. It seems I remember 16" from doing this on my last truck.

I've always been told by dealers that 18-20" was the number.
Boatmate says this on their site;
"The top of the ball should be about 18” to 19” in order to be level. When picking a drop hitch, be sure to compensate for vehicle suspension sag when the trailer tongue weight is applied."

My F350 is 18.5 inches to the bottom of the receiver. That being said, I had to purchase a 4 inch drop and my Malibu sits pretty much perfectly level.

My Expedition was about 16 inches to the bottom of the receiver. There I used a 2 inch drop.

I'd also highly recommend the cushion ball hitches. Very smooth stopping and starting.

I went with the QuietRide Soft Ride ball mount, absolutely no play anywhere in the hitch. Makes it so nice to tow with.

I pull trailers every day and we try to set ours at no less than 17 and no more than 19. This is to the ball mounting surface not the top of the ball. With a 3/4 ton or more I would go on the low side and a 1/2 ton go on the high side. My hitch is adjustable and if I am pulling close and unload or loading I set at 17 but for long interstate pulls I would set it higher. Your trailer if tandem will pull way better with a little rake (toung high) but loading your boat, turning, and rear clearance will be better with toung lower. Kind of a double edge sword so just pic witch is best for your app. And always a level trailer looks better if that's what your after.

17" from the ground is a pretty good average for the bottom of the drop where the ball mounts for most boat trailers...
should get you close enough for that long haul from the garage to the ramp ;-)
