Tantrum-edge change

Do you consciously steer your board parallel to the wake or does letting go with one hand make this happen automatically. Some of the pros tantrums,especially if they are doing a grab look like they keep their upper body the same (like a wake jump) and turn their hips along with the board to get it parallel for the trip. I dont think I am changing edges hard enough and it is making it harder to square up causing me to do a front flip crash. Any help would be great.

Definitely let off of your edge, let go with your back hand AND make your shoulders parallel to the wake, your board will follow (if not on the water, then eventually as you take off). Do this rather late, as you reach the trough of the wake, because you want to keep the speed you've built up. Be sure to pop off the top of the wake by standing tall. lead the rotation by tilting your head backwards. All this should happen in one fluid motion, which continues itself by the actual backflip and a smooth landing - if done correctly. By holding the handle only with your lead hand and with your arm in a raised, angled position, your body will be righted in the air and you will land with your body and board in the perfect direction. Landings should be really nice and soft - unlike landings from some other inverts.
