tinting boat windows

anyone out there like me that thought it would be cool to tint the windows on there boat.

well i went and bought some tinting film and did the side windows to start out on my boat and for my first tint job it looks decent, could be better but from 5 feet away you would think its professionaly done, anyway i have some questions.


is there any laws on tinting your boat windows?

has anyone tinted there boat them selves?

Let's see it... I think I am going to tint mine soon but I am going real light, maybe 50%

Attila..50% is not much at all..i had that on my windshield on my car and i barely did anything...now i have 15%..

The drawback of tinting your windows is the glare you could get..and i dont think there are any laws on tinting the windows..

I have 50% on my beemer, I like the clean subtle look of it.

yeh i think im gona go dark on my side windows like 5% and on my front window 30% cuz that 5% is pretty hard to see out of at night, but if you dont drive at night then go darker, i like the way it looks andit will keep your dash and everything under the glass nice and cool

I called a place to have it done on mine but they wouldn't do it because the windows are rubber mounted. Tried to do it myself, not as easy as it sounds. Didn't like the way it came out. Still want to get it done though.

Just had mine done at 30%. So far I like it, definitely glad I didn't go the 50% route like I was gonna.

20% Formula 1, applied by Tracy's Window Tint in Modesto. I'm glad I didn't go any darker. In the spring it was a little dark with glasses on, but in the bright summer months it's just right.

what did you pay to have that done professionaly?

Thanks...it gets alot of compliments. I'm definately happy with the way it turned out. I think it worked out especially well with my boat and tower colors.

I don't remember exactly what I paid...but I want to say it was a little under $250.

Mine's 30% and I'm pretty sure I paid a little over $200 for it to be done professionally.

The only drawwback is the glare when the sun is behind you at sun up/down, other then that it's great.

Attila...i have 5% of all my windows and 15% on my windshield, on my beemer as well..thx..i picked my xstar up in april!

man thouse boats look nice, im starting to wonder if i should have it done profesionaly.


right now i put 2.5% on my side flat windows but i think im gona go with like 25% on the front window,

what do you guys think?

You're boat is going to be completely pimp by the time you finish it up! I love your willingness to tackle projects that you've never done before. Projects like that intimidate a lot of people, and your attitude towards them will pay off big when you begin your career. You'll gain experience a build your resume much quicker than your equal aged colleges. You may not recognize it, but it's a strong quality to have.

I was curious, how much does tinting film costs these days? When I was 16, I tinted the windows in my old school Chevelle (back when a 16 year old could afford to drive a gas guzzling muscle car--hahaha) I decided that car windows are a bit too complicated to do – for me. However, a Boat wind shield could easily be pulled out, simplifying the tint job for an amateur – like me.

Now you’ve got me thinking about another project!

the hard part about boat windows , so I've been told , is the curvature of the glass, if the front window curves to much it's very hard to get the tint on flat, it will form creases.

i have heard the same adam, but they make these specail strips that make it easyer to film a curved window, they are made to but up against your defroster lines in a car window so i dont know how it would look on a ski boat, you would probly have to apply a full sheet of film on the window and then heat shrink it to fit so there is no ripples.

craig you can get tint for the price of 15 bucks up to 200 depending on what your doing and how much you need, i made the mistake of buying a roll of tint without reasearching and bought a roll of Gila film for 20 bucks, its 23'' by 7', now that i have a little more knowledge on the subject i find out if you go with a higher grade tint like a professional would use it will apply easier, last longer, look better, and has better UV resistance,

so i started looking at film on ebay and im probly gona go with this stuff called formula one , its like 150 for a sheet of 35'' by 100'.

so far the tint on my side windows right now for 20 bucks looks pretty damn good, my computer is down right now so i cant upload you pictures but when its back up i will see if i can get you some pictures.

I know I just complimented you on doing it yourself. But at $150, why not have a professional do it?

true, the only reason i would do it my self is so when its done and everyones like damn that looks nice i can say yeh i did it all my self, plus its fun to spend time in my boat and just do new things with it. i will probly end up getting the rest done professionaly as much as i dont want to.



anyone know how to get the windshield off the boat, i tried but i dont know if its glued down or how its being held on, and the screws are to close to the fiberglass to get a screw driver in.

I had mine professionally done in Sacramento and I love it.

I have a Black Centurion with a Green Victory stripe and I HAD to get the windshield tinted. I think I did 20-25% can't remember. I would do it again in a second. It matches my truck now.
