Which hull (with a bunch of ballast) will give me the better wake for the buck: an old Supra Pirata (same as Saltare, really), or an old Mastercraft Maristar? I'm going to buy one. Also, any concerns about saltwater use? PLEASE ADVISE, ASAP.

Actually, I want to run it in salt water. You see, I own an '06 22 SSV back in Utah, LOVE the boat. But I relocated to CT, and now live right on the water, but don't want to shell out the $$$ for a SECOND nice boat (gotta have the Utah one for Powell trips), but would love to surf out there, practically in my back yard. Any special tips on the wake from an old Pirata/Saltare hull like that? Also, any good saltwater tips?....or do I need to make any major improvements/changes to do so???? I don't know much about it (saltwater) - I just miss riding weekly - gotta have it.

Our buddy Tom had a Supra Sport inboard, we put 2 fast sac on the left side and one in the back. We could surf the 4-skim behind it just fine [ riders weight was 180lbs to 125lbs. Reg. salt water, you should always flush the motor out and spray the boat off.

Both the Supra I want AND The Maristar are Cuddy Cabin 24' long, and 454 cu. in. big blocks. Big, heavy boats. I once HAD a Supra 22" with a 454 and it was hard to get a good surf wake...but that was before I knew how to even do it really. Any last words to the wise, before I seal my fate....either way I'm stuck with an old boat - I KNOW one will ultimately be better than the other, I am just not SURE which one. It's like flipping a coin.

Hmmm... I guess I don't know the MC line up very well. The Maristar I've seem looks like and early MV V-drive def not 24 ft.

Both boats are 1990 or 1991 year boats. Old. But big and powerful. Any other input (the Supra vs. the Mastercraft) is still welcome from anybody! Thanks.

Shawn, what year 22SV do you have? I've heard that the older hull is quite good. Maybe you already have a good wakesurfer.

I have a 2006 22SSV. I LOVE my wake for wake-surfing. The problem is that it is in Utah, and I live (normally) now in Connecticut. I am looking to buy an (additional) 1990's boat for wakesurfing out here, as I'm right near the water. Any suggestion, between the MC and the Supra?

Most of the Maristars I have seen have a pretty flat bottom. I would guess the Saltare would be a better surfer. If memory serves me correctly, doesn't the Supra have some "V" to the hull?
