of all the oil changes your engine is ever going to get, the first one is the most important. When the engine is put together there is a lot of junk that is either inadvertantly allowed inside or simply the residue of the assembly process. The rings and cylinders take a seat, and in the process shave small amounts of metal into the oil. Dust and dirt from the factory are inside. Cast iron parts are often coated with varnish or other materials to keep them from rusting before the engine is assembled and this might not all have been washed off. Gears ,mating for the first time, polish each other and drop metal in the bottom. The list goes on. Don't delay the first oil change because you really want to get all that junk out of the oil. It is also a very wise thing to check the tension on the belts and generally give everything a good inspection. A small problem caught now can keep it from becoming a big problem later.
