Sweet! I think my Blade was black with barbed wire. It had the awesome sandal bindings and was my first board. I'm so sad that I sold it at a Play it Again sports years ago.

Did yours have the quick rotating sandal bindings. Mine had the center disk like a snowboard binding with a quick release lever that allowed you to rotate the binding without taking it off the board. Since the board was directional, it made it easy to switch from regular stance to goofy stance. Pretty advanced for that time!!

No, I don't think mine had that type of plate but I can hardly remember back that far! We loved the Switchstance and nicknamed it "The Face Plant Board" because whenever newbies would come out and ride with us they would always take one to the grill on every ride! That board had like a .01 inch rocker line.

Everyone should know Zane Schwenk as the craziest bastards out there. He also invented the Slurpee. Plus he designed one of the best selling boards in the last 5 years, the CWB Absolute. Hows that for brand loyalty? (Message edited by stephan on September 18, 2007)

You sir are incorrect!! They are all owned by the same company. The folks that own LF also own O'brien & the rest. Independent management but technically under the same umbrella. A few years back this was probably one of the hottest topics on WW, now it seems everyone is content with their waterski roots and connections. If I'm not mistaken the only ones that are truly separate are Gator, Slingshot and Ronix (which is a part of Radar Skis). Disclaimer: I don't know exactly the schematics these days but LF is certainly not the core "only legit" company you think it is.

I would assume the meaning of the previous post was that LF has never been associated with a ski company. Their roots are purely in wakeboarding (or skurfing if you prefer).

oh yes, those were the days... my first board was a 'connelly clutch'. it came with a 'skiboarding 101' instructional video featuring a young Rob Struharik. it taught all the cool tricks like deep water starts and ole surface 360's. when wakeskating first started up, i ripped off my bindings and waxed up the clutch, who needs a clutch when you have an original LF Squirt!

Starling thats right..... for some reason I didn't think the other guy was Zane.... BUT it was a FEW years ago!! First board was a Skurfer Launch....I didn't know how to get up on it so for the first few days I did dockstarts & then my dad followed us around the lake w/ the pontoon incase I fell, just did another dockstart off the front of it...

My first board was the purple Blade back in 95. Jakober, mine had the quick rotating sandal bindings. Didn't use them though. Replaced them right away with a pair of boot bindings. Can't remember what kind they were though.

Does it really matter if he owns it? They are awesome in what they have accomplished and what they have brought to the industry, especially the last few years

Whoever owns all the wakeboard companies isn't important.... As long as he allows them to work independently of one another and he doesn't control the development and progression of those companies!! I don't think this is currently the case, and the wakeboard industry is suffering because of it! (Message edited by jjakober on September 20, 2007)

JJ - you have no idea what you're talkin about. How is the industry suffering? The entire industry is far more healthy today than five years ago. Connelly/CWB is stronger than ever before. As is LF and Obrien (who were closed and bankrupt 4 years ago). HO/HY was also broke five years ago. How soon you forget!! What shape would the industry be in with those companies gone? Anyway, sorry to hijack the thread.

I really wish I still had my 96' Shapiro. My friends mom ended up selling it with their old fish/ski boat as part of the package years ago. I didn't care at the time because even back in 2000 that thing was ancient but had yet to gain its antique value. I've got every one since then though - and they're all going on the wall in the game room of my house. 98' latitude, 02' Balance 140, 04' Subjekt 137, and currently the 06' PS3 141. If I keep at this 2 yr. pace the PS3 will be joining the other broken boards in spring of 08' . (Message edited by Focker on September 21, 2007)
