I have a 4 channel amp that I have configured as follows;

ch1: 2 6x9 in parallel (2 ohm load total)
ch2: 2 6x9 in parallel (2 ohm load total)
ch3 and ch4 bridged to a sub.

Should I wire the dual coil sub in parallel for a 2 ohm load or series for an 8 ohm load? In my head I see the 2 ohm of a dual coil sub in paralle as drawing more current, but does this translate into better sound? I also see an 8 ohm load being closer to a balanced amp (2, 2 ohms on one side and an 8 ohm on the other). Maybe a balanced load doesn't mean anything?

Most 4 ch amps will not run at lower than 4 ohms bridged so in your case you can only wire at 8 ohms to keep the amp from shutting down. Check the amp specs, if it will run at 2 ohms bridged (Ch3+4) than you can run the sub at 2 ohms.

Note running at 8 ohms will force the amp to produce only half of its RMS power rating.

Interesting.... I have it wired as 2 ohm now and this weekend I was having issues with the amp shutting down... Why have dual coil subs if we cannot connect them to a bridged amp? Is briding a bad idea?

I have an Eclipse 3422 and the manual I found online says it can handle a 2 ohm load. It might have been cutting out for other reasons, like the gain was set too high and it just overheated.

Most sub manufactures offer 2 and 4 ohm DVC configurations. For bridging, a 2 Ohm DVC is the way to go with most amps.
