Would there be a noticeable differences in a 10 to 12" solo baric sub? I can't decide if the price and size is worth it. My other question is will a 12" solo fit in front of the drivers feet(where the original sub is) more so will I be able to fit the appropriate enclosure behind it? Has any X-star owners put in a solo? How does it sound?

Ten may be tighter, but twelve generally go deeper and play louder.

In my car I've got a 12inch in a 10 inch box, it's a nice compromise, hits a bit harder but still gives the ambient deep bass rumble. It also takes up heaps less space which is a bonus.

If you have the power, the solo baric cant touch the JL W7's

W7s are killer, but require a lot of power and a big box. W7s are also SQ as opposed to SPL, but they are loud. Two other subs to consider that have just as good or better SQ are the ID MAX and the Eclipse Titanium. Both require less power to hit X-Max and require smaller boxes which is a good thing in a boat. I get the same dbs out of both an ID MAX and the Eclipse at 450 watts as I do out of a W7 at 900 watts. The ID MAx may even play the deepest of the three and the Eclipse seems the most accurate on real fast double bass bang your head ranchy metal.

I have an Eclipse 12 Ti in my boat. I'm feeding it 600watts rms from it's own amp. The sub just takes it and sounds good. It's in about .9ft^3 after displacement. Don't forget about the Adrie Brahmas! They like small boxes too, but require a lot power like the JL W7s. (Message edited by magic on March 09, 2003)

I see that the 12" ID Max requires 1.30 -1.52 cu.ft. sealed. Would there be enough room for that size of enclosure if I mount the sub in the panel in front of the drivers feet? How many watts are you running to each of your subs Doug?

No I don't have the money. That is why the solo was a choice. But I may spring for a ID Max or JL.

if you are a little tight on loot get the edesign k series sub. will play as loud if not louder than the solo and will outplay the jlw3 (which I own also). awesome and optimized to work in a tiny enclosure. www.edesignaudio.com/

I run 2 10"w6v2 in my boat. Last year i had 2 15"w3's and the 10's blow them out of the water (no pun intended). The 15's produced a lower sound, cost less, but these 10's are incredible!!!!! High priced too...ouch!!! B

Based on an old "subwoofer" post, I just ordered an Elemental Designs sub and an AudioFormz enclosure. I can't wait to get the system installed and hear how it sounds!

The e-subs are killer. Look at the baskets alone on those things let alone the surrounds.

anyone have any feedback on the Infinity subs, im looking at the kappa (not the perfects though they are a bit pricey). Ive got a 10" sony ES im feeding it 300 rms in a sealed enclosure and want to replace it with a 12" in a ported enclosure?? I thought a ported enclosure will produce the most spl, why do i hear so much about sealed boxes then, everyone that short on space? Im wanting to make the box out of ply and cover the inside and outside with glass but im not sure what size ply to go with. Im not wanting to make a 1" thick 1.75 cu ft enclosure since it will weigh a ton. Any ideas what size ply i can get away with?

The infinity subs do not do a bad job at all. The perfects are very nice. the reference do a good job. For that price I would look at the e-design.

Badzuki: 900 to a 12W7 450 to ID MAX 450 to 12 inch Eclipse Titanium Elemental Designs are great too. Brahma is definitely one of the best, but it seems like most people using them to their full extent are running 1,500 to 2,000 watts to them.

Badzuki i am running nine max 12's, eight in the back with 2 1001-1 xtant amps (little over 2400 watts) and a 500-1 power up front. this subs hammer! these subs are hand built and can handle a lot. if you can get your hands on one, get it, you won't be sorry.

if you run a sealed box you get crisper bass correct? And if you port the box it is "boomier" and louder. Is that correct or have i been misinformed.

Doug- Would I have enough room for a 12 inch sub and enclosure if I mount the sub in the panel in front of the drivers feet? I like that ID Max. So many choices, so little money.

500 watts going to it? I think that sounds like the most sound for the price. Do you have the 2Ohm? A dual 4 Ohm, can you tie them together? I guess is there any perks to one or the other?

Do you run 500w to each of the leads on a dual cone or can you tie them together or what? What flexibility does it give you(benefit)?

Badzuki, I have a 10" L5 Solobaric in my boat, and it pounds. The clear advantage to a Solo is space requirements. I have a heater, and I still have the box mounted by my feet. I can also help you out with the Solo, since it sounds as though money is an issue. E-mail me in private at wakesettervlx@hotmail.com and I will let you know how I can help. Didn't you hear my boat at Boot Camp last year?

BC BOY, I will look. Anything adire does is awesome though so I want to see it. I actually did a vented enclosure on an orion hcca 12 with a 900 watt amp running it. Sounds great.

Matt: What's going on. I will be riding this summer and hopefully soon. Maybe we can hook up. My schedule was a bit hectic. We are working the details out on a $ 20 + million dollar settlement so I may kick it in a different gear and not work quiet as hard this summer. Badzuki: I think the driver's feet is the best placement for sound. You may be able to find a good deal on an ID Max on the net. Check out uscarsudio.com and woofersetc.com. They used to have pretty good prices.

Thanks Doug, my X-star is still in storage so I can't measure what size of enclosure will fit.
