Hey just wanted to know if anyone has heard these speakers in person and are they worth the price? Also I am looking to put them on an illusion X tower, will they fit under the bimini? do I have room to put other speakers if I want? Any ideas or info is much appreciated...thanks

I have heard them in person. I think they are worth the price if your main objective is to clearly hear the music while riding. If you are looking for something that sounds really good in the boat, you may want something else. I only use the addictions when riding and turn them off when chilling in the boat. The Sub and the interior speakers sound better (imo) with the addictions off. The Addiction's don't sound bad at all, they are just piercing from close range.

thanks Troy that does help...I do want to be able to hear music while riding, but I want it to sound good in the boat as well...any speakers that offer a bit of both worlds(good sound in boat/rinding behind boat)?any suggestions of what would work best for that setup?

You may also want to wait a couple of weeks and get some feedback on the new Skylon Rubicon 350's. They are due to be released soon. Another pro audio design.

NVS kind of wrote the book on HLCD tower speakers. There are lots of satisfied owners on the board here. If you are looking to shoot music to the rider the Addictions are a good call, you will probably be happy. Lately there have been a few others that I would consider to be real challengers so there are a few other options out now, still waiting to hear the Rubi's.

Check out Wetsounds. They have some really awesome products out. I am sure Dale or Tim will post on here, but their website is www.wetsounds.com.

Mikeski kind of hit the nail on the head. fwiw, I'll be sticking with the NVS brand if and when I upgrade. I am satisfied with the product, I think the price is fair and Duane and the boys have GREAT customer service.

I've never heard the NVS and I'm sure they're really good. But like Leo said, at least try the Wetsounds. The sound quality and the extreme volume are unbelievable. Great products from really good Guys.

I've got a pair of the addictions and I think they are great. I can't imagine having a pair of tyrants or the 1010s.

i second the wetsounds.

I too am interested in getting some new tower speakers. i'm considering wetsounds and NVS. I like the addictions and i hear great things about both companies. duane has always been extremely nice and helpful, the only concern I have is the weight on the tower. I have four mastercraft factory speakers on the tower and when we are loaded up with boards there is some sway.

dont have experience with either, but i think the wetsounds look better and if they are cheaper that even better :-)

My roomate has 4 pro 80s on his supra (went from nvs 1010s) and if volume at the rider is what you want nvs cant be beat. I dont now what kind of warranty wetsounds offer but nvs offers a 6 or seven year on their product. I havent heard of anyone even needing to use it either.

Wes, I had a pair of entity 1010's and the PPI4125 worked great to run them.. I ran it mono so I was getting 500 per side.

what is the weight difference between all these pro audio systems...I thought they came pretty close.

wakeside lists a pair of tyrants at 56 lbs
and If I remember correctly wetsounds said that the pro80 was 13 lbs per pod...that would be 52 lbs...if my memory serves me correctly

Kyle,

What is the sound difference as far as the nvs 1010's verses the 4 pro 80's?

Are you talking about Adam?
Old    00wakesetter            05-02-2006, 1:25 PM Reply
Yes, its Adam.

The sound difference is in the highs. The 1010s absolutly scream! If you are standing on the swim deck you wont like it. I havent had a chance to hear the 80s while riding but Adam says they do the job. I think the addicions sound great they arnt so ear piercing and you can hear them while you ride.
Old     (mammoth)      Join Date: Apr 2005       05-02-2006, 1:41 PM Reply
I have the 1010's that Adam got rid of. Obviusly I can't make a comparison to the 80's, but I can agree about the swim deck effect. The look on a passenger's face when they accidently get into the line of fire is always good for a laugh.

I would also like to second the remarks about Duane's excellent customer service. My 1010's weren't even new business for him, but he responded immediately to any questions and was happy to help communicate with my installer. Between Duane's help and the workmanship from Neptunes I'm very satisfied.

I have the 1010s and they weigh a pretty penny. There is a lot of tower sway, but, to date, I have not had any problems. Has anyone had problems with speaker weight and tower/gel coat damage?
Old     (acurtis_ttu)      Join Date: May 2004       05-02-2006, 2:37 PM Reply
I have cracks in my gelcoat around my tower legs on my supra from the 1010's. There're all cosmetic, I'm not worried about them. But my tower is small ,1 5/8. (04 rad-a-cage). Another guy in Houston who moved from somehwere out west cracked a weld on his x-30 tower while towing with the 1010's up...why he did this I have no idea???? Most tower's nowwadays can handle the weight, but I would never tow with them up.

Adam...I've towed mine around a couple times now. The first trip I had a friend behind me observing for shake and movement. Everything looked good...but as you said towers are all different. I suppose there is more to worry about than just shake so I'll give it a second thought considering I have that trick quick release setup.

You can kind of see the speakers on my boat.. they are the sickest and loudest speakers on the market today!

You would think that there would be more punishment on the tower on the water than on a trailer going down the road.
Old     (dogma)      Join Date: Oct 2001       05-03-2006, 10:32 AM Reply
depoint50ae,

I agree. When I hit some chop the tower seems to take a good degree of punishment. I am surprised that no one has reported any major damage from the extra speaker weight. Either the towers are well put together or it's just a matter of time.

I've put 500 hours on my 04 X2 with a set of 1010s mounted since the day it came off the showroom floor. I tow 21 miles each direction to my riding spot multiple times per week with the tower up, and speakers mounted. I haven't had any problems.

At one point last year the tower was flexing more than usual while riding. We traced it back to the four mounting points of the tower. They had all come pretty loose, and once tightened, everything went back to normal.
