I've taken the plunge and have been working on a new box for my Alpine 10" Type R that's in my X. The box is built out of 3/4" MDF and will be covered in 3 layers of fiberglass to waterproof it.

My question is this.....what's the best way to run the wires from the inside of the box? The sub is mounted to fire to the right (driver's side) so the DVC connections are inside the sealed box.

Ideas?

the 3 layers of glass is overkill. just use resin and carpet, unless you really like working w/ fiberglass. run the wires from the speaker to another set of external connectors moutned on the box, then out to the amp. Go to a radio shack/electronics store and you should be able to find one ($3 or so) I don't know exactly what there called but they'll know.

Well my plan is to 'glas the entire box, bondo it to make it smooth and then paint it black. Pics will follow.

I know 3 layers is probably overkill but I want to make sure it's sealed and also waterproof since the last box I had was neither (I didn't build it) and it cost me one sub.

One other question - what gauge wire should you run to a sub?

I run 12ga. I've run 10ga, before and can tell no difference. 10-14 ga should be more than adequate.
