SLIDERRs! the supports and other ideas

best way to build a slider?
i heard floating is not the best.
i want to make one thats strong and doesnt move. i am wondering how to anchor the supports? can i make one that just sits on the bottom or does it have to be pouned in or whtever. and how do i pound the 4x4's or whtever is better into the ground?

Floating sliders are a real pain.

Just use a sledge hammer to pound in the 4x4, but bring some scraps to put on top of the 4x4 so you dont smash up your 4x4.

What type of slider are you building?

Will it be a legal rail or is there a good chance it will get torn down?

How much money do you want to spend?

well im not sure the exact law on my lake. But its a smaller lake. So the only way I can forsee promblems with it is if somebody complains which could happen. I just wanna build a flat bar at first so we.can get our tricks down. But am open to other possibilitys.

oh and I'm trying to get out of of as cheap as possibile because I have no money

i put mine in 4 feet of water and my 4x4's were 6 feet i believe.....i made somewhat of an a frame to support it. all the wood was extra that came from my neighbors deck, so i put about $10 worth of screws and $50 worth of pvc into it....... best bet is to hit up your local dumpster at a construction site and improvise...

Floating sliders work if they are done right.

If you're building a slider, either floating or fixed...be sure and focus on length just as much as you are on the supports. Niether is worth the trouble if you only have time to tap the board on the way by.

Broken or cracked PVC is dangerous. If you use PVC make sure you inspect regularly.

ya i forgot about that one..... my freinds thought it would be fun to throw rocks at my slider, and busted two of the pvc sections....... i definatly wouldnt use pvc, but if its your only option, it'll work

I would recommend saving up some money and building something quality. When you start to cut cornerns to save moeny you can really compromise the safety and integrity of the rail.

Make sure your rail is at least 24' long. As Nate said if it is to short it isn't worth the effort.

Put a crutain of Plywood along the sides of the rail to keep yourself from getting tangled up in the supports should you fall.

Use at least a 2x6 for the supports and any weight bearing spans. 2x4's snap like twigs when a board hits them.

Trex (they carry this at all Lowes) is definetly the way to go for the surface, but it is going to be about $1.50 per foot.
