I was impressed with vlx and v-ride at the dealership. But I heard that the wedge doesn't help the wake at all; it just makes it mushy. Does it really add a 1000lb to the wake?

john,
mushy? have an 04 vlx, run the wedge and about 1500-2000 lbs ballast depending on how many people and wake is very nice. wedge shapes the wake and makes it a little more rampy. only down side is gas consumption. we ride alot of boats and its probably my favorite next to the san.

I am with jdog. It dose make the wake more rampy. When I ride my friends 04 VlX and jdogs wake I like when the wedge is down.

that's funny, i find on my '05 vlx that the wedge makes the wake a little steeper and peakier--so much so that the last 6 inches of the wake and the lip actually potrudes outwards towards you (without crumbling), giving you a little extra boot. i don't have much experience behind the old vlx/new v-ride hull, but the current vlx throws out arguably the cleanest wake in the business, so you don't have to worry about mush. i've heard the wedge works better on the new vlx and lsv hulls than past models, but who knows. just goes to show everyone sees a wake a little different. demo and see what you think of it. people who say the wedge is awesome are right, and so are the people that say it sucks. if you like it, cool, but malibu wakes can compete with any other boat out there with or without the wedge, so it shouldn't be a major part of your decision. if you don't like it, don't use it, add another sac, and the wedge will pay off when it comes time for resale

I like the wedge, it makes the lip super hard. With out it, I run more weight and still can't quite get the firmness I can with it down. Some people like a little forgiveness on the way up, I weigh 200 lbs. so I like the lip firm other wise I just blow through the top.

You just have to ride both boats both ways and see. It's very personal. But as far as making it mushy? That's incorrect, usually something an inexperienced non Bu owner/dealer says.

john,
like jeff said. take one out for a demo and ride behind it. ride with the wedge and without. then make your decision from there. good luck
