Being 6'5" 250lbs I really feel like inverts are out of the question. Am I using this as a crutch or is it really not possible? All (most of) the pro riders seem to be under 6'. Is anyone out there my height/weight...help a brother out. I need a confidence builder.

i am almost 6'6 and feel the same way. i just need to get the juevos out to try. does anyone know a very tall boarder like that who can do inverts?

being tall=slower rotation...

Ryan Foster who ran Double Up Wakeboard school out of Stockton (1997-1998) is 6'7" about 240 lbs. He had several inverts including an occasional backside mobe.

Eric's about 5'11", but very light. He's not big guy. Ryan Sebring, however, is about 6'4". He can throw down pretty good.

I'm 6'5" and weigh 235lbs. I can land backrolls regularly and I'm working on Scarecrows right now. I just think you have to go for it. It took a long time to learn the backroll, but I think it was more technique than my size that held me back.

...and fear

I am 6'6" 205lbs and have landed backrolls...though inconsistent at best. It is not so much your size and it is your form. As a larger individual, if you load the line properly, you will have plenty of speed and inertia to rotate.

About the falls, if you go half-assed, it will hurt...if you over rotate it will not hurt. I stalled a backroll halfway through the rotation and ended up with a minor concussion. But, that was after 20 prior attempts with no injury. So get stoked and just bust the trick.

thanks for the encouragement. I may be a bit of a wuss. After a ACL surgery and being responsible for (2) small kids I tend to take my health somewhat more seriously than when I was 18. I need a good coach and I believe I could do it...

Hey guys, this is Buffalow. I have had over 20 inverts/spins over the years and I am 6-3 300lbs. As a staple I still do backrolls, roll-revert, tantrums, crows,spins-microbat wing...

No EXCUSES!!!

Tim Krutz, a regular here, I think is around 6'5", 285lbs if I remember correctly. I know he throws rolls and I believe tantrums and recently broke his leg working on a crow.

I've tried a few rolls and they were horrid, but totally because of technique and not size. I've backed off until I get better technique and control.

Force = Mass times Acceleration.

I think being lighter helps with tricks some but REALLY helps with injury avoidance.

Time for me to get back on my diet!

I am 6'5" and 235 and I can almost land a backroll after trying about 10 times - just cannot hold the handle after I land. I think it just takes us taller guys longer to learn or maybe I learn way slow. I was with a kid who learned 6 inverts in a two hour lesson but he was like 5'2" and 110#s soaking wet. I agree that underrotating is the bad way so just sack up and throw it hard. Once you see that is doesn't hurt you will be fine

Pauls is close. I was about 285 in the beginning of the year, but I busted my arse and am around 255 now. about 6'4

and yes, i had a nasty open break a week ago. must have strong knees!

Tim, congrats on shedding the lb's. I was 305 at my biggest several years ago, got it down to 275-285 where I hovered until about a year ago, and now have it down to about 265. Would ultimately like to get it down to about 235, which at 6'7" is a good weight for me. Hopefully my new surfing addiction will get me there as an hour or two in the water is a serious workout.

Hope your leg heals quick.

I'm 6'5" and 255lbs - I almost landed my backroll yesterday (let go of the handle...damn it). Maybe I was dizzy, but I landed it at least 3-4 feet into the flats, so getting height/air isn't an issue.

Actually edging progressively instead of charging 150% is what made me realize that being 255 is not an excuse for me.

I am 6'0" and 285 and I can get my butt around on a backroll. Don't use as a crutch. I will say that I think you have to be a little more technically pure to pull it off. The lite guys can get away with just winging it.

One of my friends is about 6'2" 300 and can do a backroll. It's fun to watch. ha ha

Force = Mass times Acceleration. Since this is a rotation a more appropriate equation to get a feel for this is Torque = Moment of Inertia times Angular Acceleration. The important relation here is that Moment of Inertia (I) is to quick rotation what mass is to quick acceleration. Moment of inertia is found by breaking the object into small pieces and summing mass times radius squared for all the pieces. In short, more mass rotates slower. More mass farther from center of rotation rotated much slower. This is why tucking increases your rotation speed.

I think most of us have an example of a 200+ lb, 30 year old guy who throws huge inverts but I think these 130 lb 14 year old riders have it much easier.}

Im 6'6" 210lbs and I dont have a problem. Just throw it bigger so you got more time to rotate.

i'm 6'4" and 245. I have around 12 inverts and several spins. It just takes a little more guts and some good form. The bigger they are the harder they fall. Just go for it. no excuses.
