Well, here’s the question. Last night after a half dozen beers and 20+ games of foosball the argument began...."How many individual runs do you think you have taken on a wakeboard?" I immediately shot for the stars and said that I had taken at least 20,000 runs. After much argument and a few more beers, I had a calculator in my hand and came up with some more concrete numbers. I have been wakeboarding seriously for the last ten years. In that time I pride my self on riding at least 200+ days a year between MN, Socal, and Vacations to ride. Not to mention a few years of winters full of riding in Fl and SoCal. Each day I ride, being from MN, I ride take a least 3-4 sessions (we have to hit it hard in MN) so after taking the most conservative approach to the numbers I could, I am figuring the I have taken 8750 individual wakeboard runs. I don't even want to begin to think about how much gas I have consumed in that time. I arrived at 8750, by saying 3.5 runs per day on the water, multiplied by 225 days a year over a ten year stretch. I don’t really know how exact these numbers are, the only Time I have ever really kept track was the first summer I taught lessons all summer in 2003, that summer before moving to socal I had taken around 521 individual runs.

Anyway I now pose this question to the WakeWorld community. "How many runs have you take on a wakeboard in you life?"

Feel free to tear apart my logic for arriving at 8750 runs or come up with your own logic to reach an answer. I just think it will be interesting to see what people say.

Here’s the other question, how many runs does it take to make it to the PWT, that’s a whole other argument.

Good thread. From doing my own math below and tracking days on the ski hill, I'd guess your numbers are a little high because you haven't built in cushion for the days missed and the days with less than 3-4 runs. But, maybe that's just how you roll and, if so, impressive. Very impressive.

Somewhat geeky, all right completely geeky, but for the past several years since I've had a full-time job I jot down each snowboard day or wakeboard day (with # pulls) in my day planner. We often only get 1 pull per day unless we're camping due to weather/wind/etc up here...usually long pulls (30-40 minutes), but works out to only about 50-60 pulls per year.

I used to ride more, maybe 100 pulls per year for awhile but that is a guess. Before that, it was vacations and random trips, maybe 20-30 pulls per year, also a guess.

7 years X 55 = 385
3 years X 100 = 300
6 years X 25 = 150

Only about 800-850 pulls. I've got to step it up...hopefully get close to 1000 this year now that I have my own boat!

Good Points, I left the numers kinda high because I have actually been wakeboarding since 1993 seriously since 1997, and I didnt take into consideration how many days we go wakeskating. So the actual number maybe more like 7000 wake runs. Maybe I should have just said how many times have been staning sideways behind the boat.

Thank you Andy!

You now make me feel like I'm not so bad of a rider. I bet I don't even have 200 and I finally understand why you are better than me

Now that this thread has me thinking, I am pretty sure I have not broken a 100. This is in one summer '05 (just learning) plus the last full calendar year.

When I got my first Tige back in 97 I put 250 hours on it teh first summer I had it. Then when we finally sold it a 4 years later it had almost 600. Most of these hours were put on by me and a couple of buddies. And a few from teaching Maeghan Majors how to wakeboard :-) Thats a whole lot of wakeboarding. Then I quit riding for a few years and got back into it a couple of years ago. Last summer my buddy got a new boat and we put alittle over 120 hrs on it. And the summer before that about the same on another boat.

If I'm lucky I'm probably on the water 50 times per year. I like to ride at least twice per day when I'm on the boat so that would be at least 100 runs per year. I started wakeboarding in 1999, but I was still a waterskier at that time so I only wakeboarded one time per day when the water was to rough to ski. I'll only say 20 pulls total in 1999 so that leaves 7 complete years at 100 runs per year for a grand total of 720 runs. I have taken about 15 runs so far this year so I guess my total could be increased to about 735 total runs.

Better yet, how much time have you spent swimming on your back waiting for the boat to turn around Mr. Nintzel!

Holy crap Andy!! this is why to hard. I've been riding since 95, peaked in 99 and have been going down hill ever since. To busy with the boy to get much riding in anymore. Don't know how many runs Alex has, but it's got to be up there. He has been riding foe 8 years & coaching for Elavate Wakeboard camp for 5 years and always gets at least 3 sets a day over the summer. I know he has competed in over 140 contest. Like I said why to hard.

I figured out that I've taken between 600 and 700 sets over the last 6 years. Completely sidelined for a whole year.

I've probably pulled more than I have ridden, and I don't even own a boat.

Brian, those arent very inspiring numbers for out here.

Im used to getting pulls 3-5 days a week and hitting two sets a day, I hope not too lose too much of that in Tahoe.

OK here goes:

91-97 rode about 33 weeks a year, 4 days per week, 2 times each day = 264 sets per year * 7 years = 1848 sets

98-2000 rode about 30 weeks a year, 3 days a week, 2 times each day = 180 sets per year * 3 years = 540 sets

2001-2007 rode 25 weeks a year, 2 days a week, 2 times each day = 100 sets per year * 7 = 700 sets

TOTAL ~ 3088 sets in 17 years and I still can't jump toeside very well!!!

No wonder my knees and back hurt

Oh well, it's been fun getting here, and I have met a lot of really cool people along the way!

Here's to another 17 years

You can pretty much do what you want if you have flexibility.

I work 5 days a week, pretty much "9-to-5," and didn't have a boat until this year, so it was evenings (one pull max) and weekends on other's schedules for me. Looks like we may take more trips this year, which will up the pulls per day on the weekends. NOthing to do about weekdays for me, though. It's probably worth noting that I blew out my knee in early August '05 and missed good times in that Fall and my crew (i.e., my boat owning friends) burnt out on me last August and decided to go shoot guns or drink 24 Budweisers per day instead of riding and I only had a couple August pulls. So, numbers could've been substantially higher (20 more pulls or so) in those years.

If you have free time during the day, I'm sure you can stay close to your schedule. Weather can be a factor too and wipe out 3 to 4 day stretches, but not a big deal if you're flexible and make sure to ride when it's good. Evenings are also a mixed bag as it's almost always windy in the afternoon here. Finding good crews/thirds during the weekday days is probably the toughest part, so if you have that dialed you may be good to go. All in all, you have to work for it more around weather/cold/wind/thirds/etc. but you can pretty much ride a lot if you put in the effort. I already have 8 pulls in this year and haven't ridden in 3 weeks now. NOt a bad start to the year...

Theres no way I can figure this out to even come close. I'll say average of 200 runs a year that makes 4000 for lifetime, give or take a 1000 or so.
