Also, I am looking at moving to North Florida for my next assignment, anyone know how the lakes are around Destin or Fort Walton Beach.

Michael and Blake- Thanks a TON for what you guys are doing! We all owe you big time!

I've got a cousin Army who's headed out to Afghanistan and who loves wakeboarding, and I had another cousin who was killed in Ramadii in April.

4 years last month. I spent just over a year in the Pensacola area. Mostly at Whiting Field NAS. Are you going to Eglin?

There are quite a few places to ride in the area. Here are some links.

Wow Greg, Thanks for your service.

I have been in the AF almost 8 years and I plan on staying for the long haul. My wife is also in. We are currently stationed in San Angelo Texas as instructors.

I was wondering how popular wakeboarding was with the military crowd. We live not even 2 miles from the lake and the base is maybe 4 miles max from the lake and it seems like it is really not that popular with the base population. Kind of weird. Many times people will ask "what is that thing above your Tee ga (Tige) boat" when referring to the tower. Or if they ask what my hobbies are and I tell them wakeboarding they will ask what it is. Even some of the younger troops have no clue.

Michael, I spent a few weeks in San Angelo back in 2000 for the NCOA. Had a great time there and packed on a few pounds...the food was great. I'm headed to Fairchild next month. If any of you military folks head to Korea let me know and I'll put you in touch with some places to ride here.

I fly helo's for the Army. Been in since 1995 or so. Commissioned in 1999. Been in Iraq for the past year, . . . return in 19 days!!! COUNT 'EM 19 DAYS!!!!
I bought a new XLV with the cash I saved while I was over here, so I'm super excited to pick that up when I get back in March.

GOOD wakeboard spots near Army posts:
Fort Hood, TX:
1. Lake Stillhouse south wall and damn, little known secret.
2. Lake Austin 1 hour south is good depending on congestion.

North Florida/Lower Alabama:
1. I seem to remember a lake called Crystal Lake about 30 minutes north of Panama City, FL. Small lake, very few boats, CRYSTAL CLEAR WATER, would probably make for good wakeboarding if you could find a decent ramp. I only jet skied on the lake, and we had to off road down a little trail to put in on the beach. Quite an adventure, but if you could get a boat in there without getting stuck I think it would be a good time.
2. Lake Florala (on the Florida/Alabama border) another small lake, shallow, again few boats, never gets very choppy. SHALLOW. Recommend the Taste Freeze in the town of Florala, after your run, say hi to Mr. Harper (80+ year old owner) for me if you stop in!
3. Chattahoochee River, never wakeboarded it, but heard from a friend that it is pretty good in places.
4. Lake Martin, AL. Near Auburn, lots of fun on Big weekends (chicas), plenty of coves for butter.

My next station, after a short visit back to Ft. Rucker (Lower Alabama) is Fort Campbell, KY. I'm looking forward to some good lakes around Nashville and possibly some boarding on Land between the Lakes, (but I will miss the warm central Texas winters.) Any other good spots around there? Is the Cumberland river wakeboardable? I think I remember seeing a Centurion V Drive on there during my last visit in Clarksville.

Wow, that was long, I hope I didn't bore anybody.

R.

Greg,

Where are you headed to in Korea. I just got back last winter..about a year ago. I was down at Osan. It was a great tour, I had a bunch of fun. If you have any questions let me know. By the way, what is your AFSC? I am a 1NO71. Just curious.

Ryan thanks for the great lake info. I will do a bit of traveling around Texas checking out the lakes this summer. I hear that Possum Kingdom and Lake Amistad are really nice.

Possum Kingdom is really nice... but the conditions aren't wakeboarding friendly. However, if you're into partying, PK is the place to be... Check out Hell's Gate, it's a great place to hang out, and score those Texas beauties. Every year there's a 4th of July fireworks show that tops them all. Anyone who has witnessed it before will, more than likely, agree.

If you're close to the Fort Worth area, check out the Brazos river, at Tin Top Rd... Huge wakeboarding scene, and don't under estimate the riders being pulled by glastron's and bayliner's... Check it out, and you'll know exactly what I mean. Hope that helps. If you have anymore questions about the Fort Worth area, let me know, that's my hometown.

Michael, I'm currently at Osan...for 10 more days. Did you get to ride while you were here? I was able to ride several times a week during the summer and every weekend from Apr-Nov (Thanks Mike Blunck). I did most of my riding at a small lake in Suwon, but did hit some other places too.

Thanks to all of you for your service.

My #1 son is active US ARMY and is in the midwest right now.

Nephew is also active US ARMY; he is in the big sandbox, as they say... we got an e-mail from him last week, all he said was that he is alive, uninjured, and using up lots of ammo...

Greg,

I wasn't riding yet when I was at Osan. This was my first year riding. Where most of the guys riding out there U.S. Service members or are there Koreans who ride? 4T? Is that Medical Lab Tech? Osan was a great assignment but I am sure you are ready to get back home. I know I sure was. I do miss the food though and my wife misses the knock off purses. Congrats on coming home.

Normally I was the only American on the docks, other than a couple of regulars that went with me. The lab is mine for a few more days, and I'll be glad to give it up. After a year over here I'm ready to get back to my family and the states. You're right about the purses...the women love some shopping over here.

Jimmy,

I sent you an E-mail at work. Hit me back if you get a chance. I work as an instructor in the 315th. I may have met you before. Did you use to ride on a yellow moomba? If so then I am sure I have seen you around. Last year I rode mostly on a Glastron 195SX w/ a Monster Tower and with my friends Cuba and Berry, on a yellow centurion out at Nasworthy. The wife and I bought a new Tige at Family Powersports this year and are looking to take it out. Let me know if you ever need a pull, we will probably start riding next month or early April.

Mike,
I was riding behind my 175SX Glastron last year, not on a moomba. How did Family Powersports treat you and which color 05 tige did you get. I emailed you too.

Jimmy,

I didn't get your E-mail for some reason. Try Michael.Clutz@goodfellow.af.mil. Family Powersports was outstanding. We got a fairly good deal on our boat, but most importantly they were great to work service with. I would recommend them to anyone. My boat is a bright green and white 21I with a wakedesign tower.

We went riding this sunday and it was awesome. My friend Jason and I were the only ones in the water. Air temp sunday was about 79 and water temp was 59. We only used half wetsuits and it wasn't too bad. E-mail me a good contact number and I will let you know the next time we go out.

Mike
