"Never have to worry about gators... shoot their more afraid of you than you are of them" How many times have I heard this from our Floridian members.

Found the photo and thought it would be appreciated. I once ran over a small 5 foot gator on a ski and we later found it floating with a gash in his head from the skeg.

Wow. If he would have kept that first pose looking at the camera guy a few more seconds, he would be missing at least half an arm.

on the second trip out, after convincing my wife to buy a boat a few years ago, we were entering the park where we put the boat in and you should have seen her face when the park attendant told us to keep to the North side of the bayou because the rangers were trying to get the local "big" gator to move back into the swampy cove area. They said to not worry about him, he likes people...

Nice poop under the Gars tale. ^^ Yes Nick, all the gators seem to respect me on the lake for some reason. We gar gig at least once a week in the summer here. None that big though.

That aligator gar was taken in Broken Bow lake in Oklahoma, the same lake that is in my profile picture. Although they have those same Gar in Texas (aligator gar, spotted gar and long nose gar). (Message edited by Pierce Bronkite on May 14, 2008)

According to Snopes (link above) its actually from TX. Either way I don't think I'll be going to any lakes that have alligator gar any time soon. -Steve

http://www.snopes.com/photos/hunting/alligatorgar.asp I'm not saying snopes is always correct, but I trust it more than the caption on the pics.

I didn't know Gars got near that big. I've seen plenty 5 and 10 pound ones, but that is just crazy. (Message edited by trickyboarder08 on May 14, 2008)

Broken Bow gives me the creeps now because of that picture. I saw it a few years ago and had forgotten about it. Nice lake though.

WTF. Move to Minnesota where all you have to deal with in the lakes is..... well nothing, except that we don't have anything to do for 9 months out of the year due to ice.

that thing is huge!!! i was watching this show where some giant fish like that (I think a massive catfish) ate a small child that was swimming, then washed up a couple days later because it choked. Scary.

We have the big gator gar where we ride. You rarely see them. They definitely won't bite you. However, when the girls see one, you can forget them ever getting in the water!! I bow fished for them for years. My biggest was 6ft 9inches long and weighed 160lbs. Used to be my main hobby... go figure.

alligator gar are really not bad bc they are scavenger fish....not really hunters!!! but I wouldnt want to be the one to put that to the test!! I have hooked alligater gar at lake alan henry and pulled them up near the boat before they broke off and they are scary lookin. every time I have ever hooked one about 5 swim up to the boat with it!!!imagine swan diving into a school of pissd off gar.

Gars are primarily predators, they are a constant menace to the bass and perch population here in Fl. They dont have all those teeth to eat dead rotten fish. At night here you can throw a wounded fish in the water and see him getting torn apart by several gar. Thankfully they dont come after us!
