Is it just me, or did my thread about wanting to buy a winch just disappear from the form?

Anyways, my question was about hitches. Are they really necessary? I've never owned a winch so I know nothing but... can't you just weigh winches down without a hitch?

Greg, not sure where the thread went.. I've only seen Dave remove posts with bad language or inappropriate content..

About your hitch question; I think it has a lot to do with where you will be riding. If all your local spots are setup to back a truck right up, that is always nice. Most find themselves securing the winch into the ground, or tree, etc.. or all the above. With or without a hitch mount, the winch can always be secured in the bed of a truck with straps to the four corners, and that is plenty secure.
