Powering "Double UP" Wetsounds

I am buying a double up package from Wetsounds. The application is going to be for surfing and cove partying. I am running a PPI 4125. Will I be able to sufficently power all four speakers of the front 2 channels. This will give each speaker 125watts at 2ohms.

I have heard that this amp is underrated.

Murphy,

That is a solid amp. And is under rated. I would recommend using all 4 chs though as I think you will be much happier.

Tim,

Would you suggest running it all in 2 ohm so that each speaker gets 250 watts.

or

4 ohm with each speaker getting 125.

Since it is a 4 ch amp. The only easy way to run that amp at 2 ohms is if you have eight 4 ohm speakers in parallel. So since you are only running four 4 ohm speakers. You can only run it at 4 ohms. Giving each 125. But that amp should do more than that, maybe around 150 x4. The PRO60 and MB-8 are rated at 150 rms so you should be good there.

Tim,

I have the ability to get my hands on a PPI 2200 for very cheap. This is a 2 channel amp that will give me 2 x 400 at 2ohms. Would this be a better choice?

That amp would work as well. So either way, you would have good power and the PPI amps are solid so I guess whichever you can get at the better price.

On second thought...I think I going to stick with that PPI 4125 for the "double up". Thanks for your help.

show that amp a 4 ohm load, especially if you plan on running it for extended periods of time ( party cove). My exp with an class AB amp seeing 2 ohms loads is none of them stay on for long ( overheat) at loud volume, regardless of brand. Unless of course they have fans /cooling system on them.

Adam is 100% right. I usually try to run at 4 ohms. Some amps can play at 2 ohms with no heat issues but some do not like it at all. The PPI amps can but even so, adding a fan is wise. I will post pics of our demo boat and what we did for amp cooling once I get the build pics of my camera.

I owe the 4125 so that is what I will go with.

It has never overheated once and it pushes 8 speakers. Been using it for 4 texas summers now and push it hard for 5 hours a time. No extrenal fans needed.
