Last weekend we were skiing behind the family Tige 20V. After a few sets it would not start for a while, then a strange noise (almost a pop). The engine started with a puff of black smoke.

The engine then ran with a strange whine to it. It performed fine, all the gages looked normal. Did something really bad happen? should I quit driving it??

What Happened? Thanks

I would have the fuel pressure checked...the high pressure pump may be making the whining noise, and may be on it's way out.

I second the fuel pump but also you need to check for any vacume leeks. They will whine when not attached and will cause hard starts
