In the ROAM description in the 2005 Hyperlite catalog there are a couple references to "soul turns." There's even a Parks quote of "Soul turns will never die." What exactly is a soul turn?

Alex, Come on man! You know what a soul turn is! Just doing big carves on the wake and out in the flats. You know like Greg Nelson did back in the day. Soul turns on the Roam is where its at! I love that board.

Soul turns are about the feeling of riding a board, not doing some hacked out wake jump. It's all about the feeling of that board interacting with the water surface. Jonathan, please don't come to CA, we don't need any soul haters down here.

I usually start out my runs with some "soul turns" or some surface / bunny-hop tricks, just to get in the flow, and to make sure I’m feeling it. BTW: Jonathan – I bet you’re the kind of rider that wants to learn a Tantrum before you can jump toeside, huh? P.S. I’m just yanking your chain so don’t get to upset.

I do soul turns every night on my longboard cruising down the hills in my neighborhood, damn they feel good.. I am becoming less and less a fan of the huckster mentality, which when I watch Parks these days is all I see from him. Give me Josh Storrer on the Delta any day..

It started out as a surfing term. It's how people used to surf.

Sorry to rile everyone up. My sense of humour translates poorly to the internet. Clay, Parks rips. But I personally have no desire to be like him. No problem Shawn. BTW i would love to have learned tantrums before toeside. I didn't but it is so much more impressive to the ladies. This year I will get that Tantrum nailed.... and maybe add a little soul to that method.
