Jack, google search "polk db124 review". I only looked at one site but the reviews weren't very good. They don't sound like they are built very durably.

I don't know that much about speakers. I have a Kicker CVR124 in my boat and it is pretty load with 400 watts. I have seen the Kicker CVR124 online for around $90. Maybe check out a Rockford Fosgate P2D412. They are about 90 online as well. I have also seen Polk Momo 12's for 70ish. Go to sonicelectronix.com. They have a ton of stuff at good prices and have reviews.

If you go to sonicelectronix and find something you like, search on ebay as well... They have an ebay store too and sell the same products cheaper on ebay than they do on their site!!! When I called and asked them about this, the guy on the phone said "competition is stiffer on ebay."

good luck.

I'd also look at your local craigslist ads to try and maybe get something nicer but slightly used.

Jack,

We're now switching over to JL W0s for a woofer in the $100 class. But, we used the Polk dBs for years. Its a low mass and fairly efficient sub that works well with low to moderate power and models very well in a small sealed box. Ignore the factory recommendations of .88 cu. ft. Instead use a 1.0 minimum to 1.2 maximum gross internal volume for a 12.

The Polk MOMO sounds great in the right ported box but is an absolute dog (not just a woofer) in a sealed box. In any case, the correct box will have a big impact on the performance you get. Negative reviews can be misleading because you never know if the user executed the box, tuning or installation correctly. Stay way from off-the-shelf car stereo boxes. The seams will fail in a single season, even though the carpet conceals it, and the woofer will soon fatigue and fail as a result.
