I am going to look at a 210TE tomorrow and was wanting to know some of the pro's and con's of this boat and someone who can describe the wake characteristics as compared to say a MC X2 or Xstar.

Any help is much appreciated.

both are smaller boats with first class great wakes...210 will be very steep and the x2 will be rampy...

Its a narrow beam so you will lose interior space but totally worth it for the wake. IMO the 210 is the best wake out there.. obviously this opinion will be debated forever. but yeah just like caddy said, its a steep ramp and will pop you straight up.

John,
You might want to clarify what year X2 or Xstar. We are probably assuming the 205V hull on the original Xstar, X2, now X1.
Both wakes are great fun!

My good friend has an original Xstar (now X1) that I love. Unfortunatley we do not have a good MC dealer in the St. Louis area otherwise I would look at an X1 or a new X2.

Anyway, I have a Tige 22VE now and I like the boat but hate the wake. I am not so concerned about interior size, I am more in it for the wake now and I am moving to a lake where the 22'r is a little overkill, a 20' or 21' in this case would be great.

So the 210 wake is steep versus the MC is rampy, is that correct?

The 210 is known for an abrupt lip/kick at the top. The 205V hull has more ramp when compared to the 210 but both wakes are, a Sean hinted at, arguably in the tops of wake categories.

It's a personal preference thing and I like them both. However, the 210 wake has booted me on my arse enough to know an injury would be in my future if it we my usual ride. I think some have said the 210 can be less forgiving to technically challenged riders...like myself.

If I didn't have my ride, the 210 would probably be the next on my list.

Ride it/them and make your judgement.

Good luck and have fun with whichever you end up with!

CC 210 is the steepest.
MC X1 is not as steep but still fairly steep.
BU VLX is even less steep.

Steeper wakes give more pop.
Rampier wakes are more forgiving.

Steeper wakes require less ballast and gasoline.

Its really a matter of personal preference.

Have to slightly dispute GD's review above. Yes the VLX wake is very rampy when the wedge is up, but when it is down, it kicks, has a geat lip, and is pretty darn steep.

"Steeper wakes require less ballast and gasoline." Could you please explain?

i have spent alot of time in both boats, the xstar/2/1 is nice but would give the nod to the 210 wake by a noticable margin... you can also play around with wieght in the bow of the 210 when youre starting off to make the steepness of the wake a little less.

I've got the same question... Don't know what the shape of the wake has got to do with gas consumption.
But I've own a 210 and X2 and it's true that the 210 is more fuel efficient as the X2 (both 310hp).

I'll take a stab at answering the "Steeper wakes require less ballast and gasoline".

Although "hull shape" has some affect on the amount of steepness or where a wake will curl over....and the amount of "fixed hook" or "variable hook" from a cavitation plate, trim tab or hydrogate at the back edge of any hull will also affect the shape.

Since 1998 wakeboard boasts have been getting bigger and bigger and so has the width of the bottom. The wider the bottom requires more ballast to push it down into the water. More weight requires more hp and gas to do the same work that a narrower bottom requires. Boats with wider beams have flatter/rampier wakes and boats that are narrower sink deeper with less weight. In other words, you can get a steeper wake from a narrow bottom boat than a wide one.

Many boat builders are trying to walk the line between a wide beam and narrow bottom...if you go too wide with the beam and too narrow on the bottom, you get a "tender boat"...or one that is real sensitive to weight changes. Too wide a bottom and you have more stability, but must put a ton of weight to build the wake.

Thanks Tim, good info!

im thinking by less fuel he meant less in the tank.
