Hey Guys,

Does anyone know if a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (4 door) or a Hummer H3 can pull a 22ft moomba. I live in Arizona and I will need to pull up some mountains to get to the lakes.

If it is able to pull the boat will I have much trouble getting up the mountains?

I currently have a GMC denali 2003 that pulls it just fine...

Thanks for you help...

Nope.. The H3 looks like it should, but it can't. It has an inline 5. I think it has 3500lb towing capacity. Don't know for sure about the wrangler, but I don't think I'd like to pull with that short of wheelbase. Squirlley

If you have a Denali why would you buy something like that anyway, seems like a step back to me.

The H3 is supposed to get a V-8 for 2008. I have heard that they are doggy on its own with the I-5.

Its not the pulling its the stopping that you need to worry about.

It's staying in your own lane tha you need to worry about. Short wheelbase tow vehicle + big boat = trailer steers the rig...

Going from a 133" wheelbase to a 116" you would HATE! The boat will push the truck around much more and not track as straight. Also the drivetrain will be weaker, but not by much.

The only benefit gained is the shorter wheelbase will allow you to turn quicker.

Brakes...well the Chevy 1500's aren't anything great, so you can not get much worse with any modern vehicle.

The Hummer is just a Chevy Tahoe chassy and engine with about 3000 lbs more useless wieght on it. That makes it tow 3000lbs less than the equivalent vehicle that is a ton cheaper. The Wrangler has way too short a wheel base to be safe on the highway. Stick with your GMC denali 2003.

I have towed my 20 foot Bu with my Traiblazer which has the I-6 in it and it left alot to be desired in the pulling department. Also the short wheelbase was an issue when coming down hills. I did it once and probably wouldn't do it again, Now I use a Tahoe, Silverado or a Titan when I pull it, these are much better tow vehicles, especially when considering the hills I have to pull.

The H3 is a Trailblazer in disguise. They tow pretty well with the 5.3 but we had to get the Buick version for my mom to get the 5.3L in 2004. We tested the little 6 and I decided to get the Tahoe instead because the 6 cyl Trailblazer seemed inadequate in most situations. One of my best moves ever.

Actually, I thought that the H3 was the chevy colorado in disguise and that has the inline 5, not the 6 banger. Either way, go bigger.

I've got the Trailblazer SS and it tows awesome. I had an 04 ram 2500 with the hemi and this has more power towing than that did. I haven't had any issues pulling the boat. I don't think it's an issue as long as your boat doesn't outweigh your tow rig. Mine are almost even in weight with the SS having a few hundred pounds on the boat it weighs between 4800-5000 pounds.

Not saying Wrangler is a good idea but:

The 2007 Wrangler Unlimited (four-door like he specified) has the same weelbase as a 2007 Yukon Denali (116"). It weighs 800-900# less though. 3500# tow capacity is pushing it for a 22' boat+ trailer, but would probably be ok for short flat tows IMO.

(H3 is 112"WB and 4700# BTW)
