Rode my new Marius yesterday and found it to be really slow. Just felt like I had to work really hard to ride it and I am no expert by any means. Anybody else feel the same or did I just have a bad day?

what board were you riding before?

i found the marius to be slower than my last board (blindside blade - fast board), but it wasn't to the point of working really hard on it. it's my current and favorite board.

I was riding an 05 Hyperlite ERA 137. I tried out the 06 Murray and really liked it, but after reading the reviews on the Marius it seemed to be what I was looking for. I guess I will just have to give it time.

you thought the marius was slower than the era??? the era's one of the slowest board ever made and way slower than the marius.

Last year I was riding at 70' about 21mph on the ERA behind Tige21i, Saturday I was riding 75' at 25 mph behind Tige22ve and it still felt slow.

Get on your edge a little more maybe? You may also just be thinking it is slow due to how much more surgace area there is. It took a little while for me to get used to it as well, but it is definately one of the best boards I have ever ridden. Super soft and it boots ya!

What was your fin setups on each of these boards. I'd say that the Marius isn't slower in the ride, but its definately slower in its response. Setting an edge is more of a chore. It's a unique board, give it a few sets and see how you like it.

I agree with Heavy. When I rode the marius it was less responsive transferring between edges (due to width obviously), once on edge it was quite fast IMHO.

Edit: I guess I would say that it is less agile if anything.

I increased my speed 2 miles hour coming from the absolute. By the way you might want to calibrate your speed , if you haven't done that already?

I agree with tim, sounds like your speed may be off. I thought the marius was fast compared to my prodigy 140 and gonzales 143

Maybe it's just me. Even on edge it feels really slow. I am going riding again on Wednesday and will give it another shot and report back.

ya i rode it too.... the rep told me this..."it rides like an old caddy..coming into the wake it rolls onto edge slow but once you are on edge it bombs though the wake.." give it about another week and you'll get it down

The Marius is not slow, its a fairly fast board when your edging properly, but it does take some time to get used to the new shape.

Yeah, I thought the Marius was a rocket once you got it on full edge. I never rode it with fins though. That may slow it down a bit.

It took me a few weeks to get used to it. I upped the speed to compensate for the slow feel butthen my arms got tired. I finnaly went back tomy regular speed 23 mph+- and found that if you roll and really think about progressive edge this thing will rock.

It really rewards a progressive edge. Give it a little time to get used to it. If nothing else you can use it to paraglide.

John, the marius is a very wide board as you know. if you are use a narrow board then is will feel very slow, also you will have to work harder to put that much more board into the water to get it on edge. Just give it time, or go get a transend that is a narrow very fast board.

christopher, the transcend is actually a really slow board, and the marius is less than an inch wider.

When you say it is slow to react does that mean it is not very good for the trip trick like the tantrum etc. where you need to quickly change your edge for the trick.?
Thanks

The Marius is great for any trick, its wider but the V hull on the board allows it to rock on edge easier than if it didn't have it. As far as Trip Flip tricks, its not so much that you actually change your edge as it is you ease up your hard edge and square up. The Marius will not inhibit this.

The Transcend is not the quickest board, but with the Platinum and the speedbase it is like a whole different ride much quicker than the shape of old.
