I don't want to start a debate....but I really need some advice.

I am looking to upgrade my tower speakers. I am on kind of a budget as I have a son on the way - due May 25th... new wakeboarder..
so- i am going to be able to spend around 600. I don't need a lot of base - just loud clear sound at 75 feet. I am looking at the Bazooka tube. the 8inch seems to fit the bill with the horn built in. http://www.sasbazooka.com/products/marine/Tubbies-C18/Compression-Horn-S101/MT8002CHB---8--Black-Compression-Horn-Tubbies-P140
Or - would i be better off trying to find a used pair of wet sounds 485? One set - not two.
http://www.wetsounds.com/pages/products/PRO485.html
thanks for you help! I am not committed to anything yet - all suggestions greatly appreciated.
I am just looking to get LOUD!

I would add the wetsounds 485, the one set should do you just fine as long as you have the right amp powering them. Also you might want to try the bullet speakers. They are in your price range, I believe they are around 550 dollars.

But either the wetsounds or the bullets should be just fine at around 75' with the right amp.

Wetsounds for sure! I went with 2 Pro 80's over a single 485...I thought it would look weird having one speaker on my tower. I'm yet to hear a negative thing about Wetsounds products (other than NVS owners ragging) and their customer service is UNBELIEVABLE! I'm sure others will chime in...but to me this is a no brainer.

It does seem that Wetsounds is hit everywhere i read.
Nick - I kind of agree that the spaced out speakers will look better. But, I am trying to clean up my tower, right now I have 6 liquid audio 6.5s and a light bar...
Do you think that the Pro 80s will provide any better sound - louder and quality - than the single 485? I have read the horn gets it there....

Gotcha Nate, I don't have any experience comparing both the 80's and a single 485 directly. That would be a better question for Tim...I emailed him several times before I pulled the trigger and made sure I was getting exactly what I wanted. I don't think you can go wrong with either, I'm sure they are both sound good at 80' feet.

I have some NVS that maybe in your budget if your willing to spend a bit more.. even the amp to push them.

Sorry, shamelss plug but you cant go wrong with NVS or Wetsounds.. stay away from bazooka CRAP.

DBOT5 my friend. I have a friend with them and it is ridiculous. Plus, they look super clean.

I bought four Liquid Audio Tower speakers and a JL 500x4 to push them for about 600 off E-bay. They are loud and clear @ 75ft.

I started with a single 485 on my tower. I wanted good sound but wasn't ready to drop about 2K on just tower speakers. I had to crank it up to hear it clear at 75'. I added two pro 80's so I don't have to drive them as hard and it fills the tower and looks better then just the 485. I cant see you staying in your $600 budget by the time you get the 485 and a decent amp. But like Tim told me if you start with one 485 if you want more its easy to add. I emailed Tim directly and he more than answered my questions.

Rich - what amp did you use to push only the 485? How did it sound when wakeboarding.
I have 6 liquid audio on my tower now...and i can definitely hear them at 75 feet...but I am looking for a more quality sound. Nothing against Liquid Audio - I just want to get a bit more mid-range in my music. The Liquid Audio distort at high volume with any bass.
The real bummer with that is when I turn the bass down, my sub suffers. I get less bass inside the boat.
So - IYO - I keep the same volume with better quality with the single 485 (or a 8in DBOT5, Bullet - etc)than keeping the 6 6.5Liquid Audios?

485 is louder than two pro 80s but they are a dif. sound. the 80s are more tiny and the 485 is more bold and will carry furthur. i have the 3 some.. 2 pro 80s and a 485 in the middle.. its stupid loud for sure..

Nate, I have a pair of Bazooka Tubbies for sale, the 8 inch models...im selling them because I moved to 2 Pro 80's. Ive got them on here for $100. Let me know and we can work something out if you're interested ...
Sorry that was a shameless plug for the speakers. I just don't have a use for them since im swapping everything to wetsounds now..
Havent hoooked up the Pro80's yet but cant wait!

Greg - I may be interested if I couple those with another set of speakers.

What do you guys think of the Fusion T-Series, 3-way-combos (personally I have always thought highly of 3-ways :-) ) as compared to the rest of the field.. Ebay has them new for $400 while BuyWake has em around $930.
OR -is the horn really the way to go?

Thanks again.
