Looking at the poor quality trailers where I live, I am just scouting around to see what the dream trailer can be built for. I know a lot of people on this forum have ages of experience when it comes to trailering your boat, so I figured I'd ask what you miss in a trailer.

My thoughts so far is to build in aluminum, use bronze disc brakes, waterproof lighting, electric winch, welded-on straps - and I guess that's where my imagination stops. Does anyone know how I should calculate the dimensions of the aluminum?

I appreciate all feedback. Almost.

not really a dream just a question...I am thinking about adding the crash pads like you see on natiques to my MC trailer...I like to pull out with the trailer deep..have a dark colored hull and am affraid that draging agenst the bunks will cause scratches...It seems like the crashpads are the way to go. there is a guide on the front of my trailer to align the bow but when i put the trailr in deep enough to not rub the hull the bow eyelet is exactly the sane level as the guide and if you are 2" off like i was today the eyelet hits the bunk and tears tears the carpet....long stary short anyone ever add these things..or mabey i just suck at driving

Do you have a picture of these crash pads? I am not sure if I've ever seen them.

Boat buddy
Torsion axle suspension
Oil bath bearings
Rollers under prop guard
Pivot tongue
Spinning trailer guards
Top of fender step
Backup lights

Crash pads eh? Is that what they are called. We just call them the Gates of Hell cuz not a big fan of look. Electric winch seems unneccesarily complicated to me, why not just drive it on and let the boat buddy do its job?
