I went to costco yesterday and saw what looked like an ice chest but you plug it into a 12v socket. It dosen't look like you could substitute regular ice but could probably use some of the blue ice packs if you wanted to.
Has anyone tried one of these?

My roomate has a mini fridge that has a 12V or 110V power source. You could take it on the boat. If thats that you are asking?

I have a pretty good 12v/120v one that I use for my work that will go all the way to freeze. The biggest drawbacks is that they do not cool the contents nearly as rapidly as ice and takes a while to get up to a consistent temp. I actually still end up using coolers if it is just a day trip, otherwise I have to throw all of the drinks into the fridge so they start cold and plug in the cooler the night before to cool it down. Usually more of a hassle than just grabbing a bag of ice in the morning. Found it to really to be less convenient than a cooler unless I need to keep the contents cold for longer than a day or heading on a road trip.

Thanks for the input. Looked like a cool idea but I just didn't know how practical it was.

I have a Coleman electric cooler. It is nice for camping trips, but you have to run the vehicle every couple of hours to keep the battery from draining.

I keep looking for one that would also allow ice.
That would be the hot ticket for a full day in 110 degree heat. Does it exist?
