LEAD BALLAST ?

Who sells lead ballast anymore.I tried the lead headz link but it did not work.Anyone know of some good deals on lead?

Yeah I've been looking for lead also. Even our "friends," that use it won't tell us where they got it. WTF?

Go to an indoor shooting range, pick up some lead, and then throw it in some sacks.... it's cheap.

Also try going to a tire repair store. Ask if they have any old tire balancing weights they are going to be getting rid of. That's were we get our lead for fishing weight.

You will pay anywhere from $.70 to 1 per pound for lead bricks.

Drop off a few buckets at the indoor range and you can probably get it for FREE.

no way!! Try POP Products. It's approximately 40 lbs of steel shot that comes from the waste of a steel machining shop. The shot is in a sealed plastic bag which is then placed inside another vinyl bag with handles. They freakin' rock.

I guess you can only get them in SoCal, shipping them would be a task.

Go to a tire shop or an indoor shooting range, and they'll give you lead for cheap if not free. Then, if you're so inclined, melt the lead down into bricks, and you can make them whatever size you want. Then just coat them in that rubberize-it coating, and you've got your own lead-hedz for about 1/10th of the price.

I found Industrial Metal Supply in Irvine. They have 65lbs. ingits (spelling?). They measure 18 to 20" long, by about 3" wide for $55.90 a piece. Their phone # is (949) 250-3343

Proflight is selling 65 lb lead bars for $65/bar. They told me if I bought at least 10 bars they would drop the price to $55/bar.
After thinking about it for about 2 seconds, I decided my fat sacs work just fine, and I don't have to drag around the extra weight.

Cal Correct Craft sells the Pop Products 40lb weight bags for $29 and they won't damage the boat, are easy to unload from the truck and you can't stub your toe on them.

Get the Pop Products bags! They are way better than any bar or brick!

dude, just do as a couple others and myself have done, go to a tire repair shop, I went to a ford dealership and get tire weights. I've got a couple 2.5 gallon buckets with tops for like $3 at that hardware store, fill'em with the weights, then use water to fill in the rest adding another couple lbs, and maybe sand for more, cap it!

Hunters who reload shot-gun shells buy bags of lead shot that weight 25lbs/bag. My neighbor gives me the bags filled back up with the spent primers. Doesn't weight much/bag, but I've got literally 500+lbs of easily moveable weight for the cost of a few buckets. Get smart, gas isn't cheap!

I bought some 4" PVC and some end caps. Then I did what a lot of other people here have done and got some tire balancing weights from service stations (they were happy to get rid of it). Cut the PVC to desired length and put one end cap on using plumbers dope. Then fill the PVC with the weights and cap the other end. This process works perfectly b/c you can make them any size you want and they fit perfectly under the seats. They are also easy to move around.

1. Shooting range lead.
2. Plastic "Jerry Cans"(They have handles already attached)
3. Pour the loose lead shot into the cans ...
No melting required, Cheap, no mess, easy to make and move around in the boat.
I have 4- 5 gallon cans in my boat. Total cost was less than $75.

1 gallon = 0.1336806 cubic feet

The density of lead is 705 lbm/cubic foot.

Therefore, 1 gallon of lead should weigh 94.24 lbm, neglecting air volume of course. However, this is assuming that the metal is pure lead, which is probably not the case. So, I would say anywhere from 75 lbm to 90 lbm.

My friend Randy told me he got some 80lb bags of cement at Home Depot for $3.00 each. Soaked them in water so they'd harden while still in the bag. Then he put three on each side of his engine and three up front under the seats in the bow. It added a lot of weight to his boat and it barely takes up any of the storage room.

I've also heard of people using sand, but I would think sand might make a mess if the bag tears open. At least cement is solid.

the melted down lead that you get from tire shops works good and can be put outta the way easier, but if you just want some weight get a good six 5gal buckets of cement and then to hold them in place get some cheap 50-100lb bags of bird feed. The bird seeds will get messed up when wet though

go to your local donut shop, duncan donuts, krispy kreme on a early sunday morning etc. You can ask the first two people in line to come out for a nice ride in a nice wakeboard boat.....instant heavy ballast, cheap, easily moves around, and will probably supply the donuts also.
