I am looking at buying a new prop for my X-star. The boat is super sluggish and takes a long time to plane with just the stock ballast. I plan on running additional ballast soon but I konw that I will need a new prop for the job. Which one do you guys suggest. My dealer claims that one called the Edge works great. Oh almost forgot, it is an 06' w/ the MCX engine.

Its not the prop thats the problem, its the pitch of the prop. Get the same model prop, and drop 1" of pitch for every 100 RPM's you think you shoudl gain. I'd probably get 2" less pitch, but maybe more.

Either call OJ props or Acme Props directly, and tell them your problem. They'll give you what you need.

The best prop for the MCX X-Star is the 14.25 x 14.

Call OJ Props for more information -

I have the Acme 14.25-14.50 I think those numbers are correct, and the OJ of the 14.50 - 14.25. Both good props, but I like the Acme better

my 05 xstar with mcx came with 13.7 X 17. way underpropped for anything but cruising and casual wakeboarding. rpm was 3,050 @ 21 1/2 mph. erci johnson at oj told me to get the 14.25 X 14.0 with 110 cup. unbelievable difference in hole shot, holding speed and steady pull. however, the rpm went up to 3,400. that's a lot more wear on the engine and a LOT more gas consumption. eric just advised me to change to a 14.25 X 14.5. he said that would drop the rpm 200-300. i will have a Little less ability to heavily load the boat but just as good of a hole-shot and steady pull without the gas-guzzling. IF i am going to put 3000-4000 lbs of ballast in the boat then i will stick with the 14.24 X 14.0. however, i have never done that but i want to someday just for a goof. good luck, but the answer lies in your application and how you will weight the boat.

Hey Star - how much weight are you running?

We currently have the 14.25 x 14.5 and i was going to change to the 14.25 x 14.

However, if you are saying that it gets better gas millage with ok hole shot i might just keep the one i have.

my thoughts, if you are loading the boat down so much that a .5 difference in pitch makes a difference, then gas consumption should be the last thing on your mind. Also, how hard the engine has to work to get out of the hole has to be a consideration into engine wear. I would think that high RPM's, at least while getting out of the hole, would be a good thing and put less stress on the engine.

The whole shot is considerly better with the 14.25x14 over the 14.25x14.5. i was able to test the two back to back and could really tell the difference.
