ive got two wetsound pro 80's running off of a 800 watt rockford fosgate amp and im adding a jl w7 10 inch sub with a jl 1000 watt amp, and thinking of upgrading my 6.5 inch in boat speakers with 6.5 inch polks running off a clarion 480 amp. is this just going to destroy my alternator or what? definitely dont want to compromise anything with regards to my engine.

Running your batteries way down and letting just the altenator try to charge them up is a recipe for a busted altenator. If you mostly listen to your stereo with the boat running your probably going to be okay. I have a sep bank of batteries just for the stereo that I charge at home so I dont stress the altenator. I do however listen to the stereo, key off, and drain my stereo bank pretty heavily.

Agian, it depends on how you listen to your stereo. If you only listen to it while the boat is running I dont see an issue. If you park and listen and continously run your batts down then yes, you will stress your alt and over time destroy your batteries.
