Found this on another website. This looks like a good Hollywood recreation, but this is still nuts! http://www.break.com/index/dynamite_surfing.html

I'm reading some of the comments related to the vid...lol...the more rational comments lead me to believe it is.

the water appears like it's still with algae all over it. after the blast, the wave was all frothy behind the barrel, at the end, indicating salt in the water and repeat churning from multiple waves. doesn't seem real to me.

I was thinking the same thing about the vid being the real deal, but it was still sick.

A wave breaking like that denotes some sort of reef, sand bar or shaped bottom which would be unusual in a lake like that plus the dynamite looked phoney as I don't think you can actually detonate it with a regular fuse like that anymore. (Sounds like Billy can verify that though LOL) Camera moves are very convenient as well, notice how you go from the buildings in the background to just a low shot of the surfer riding. (And crap video quality hides it all). Let's face it if one could actually pull that off you'd work extra hard to make sure it didn't look faked and decent video would be number one as well as multiple cameras / angles. Either way it's pretty well done and very entertaining. (look at the number of hits it gotten!)

I am sending this link to Mythbusters today. I think it is totally possible. but I am no explosives expert. Well, at least not to that magnitude.

It could be legit! Look at the parked cars' lights flashing from their alarms going off at the end.

I just submitted it to Mythbusters. Guess the only way to find out 100% is for them to redo the stunt, or for some fellow wakeworldian to get their hands on some massive explosives, a lake, and a surfboard.

Interesting though there is a wave going in the other direction as well in the video indicating to me it was real, if it was, then there should be a wave in all directions around the blast it looks like there was to me???

It was made for Quiksilver by an advert group called Saatchi and Saatchi in Denmark, and, if you're really seriously wondering if it's 100% real, it's not.

I'd have to see it as higher resolution, but it looks like the smoke is too stragetically placed. From a compositing position it would be the easiest place to use it as a transition from the water being displaced to the actual creation of the wave. BTW, Saatchi is just an adagency. They would subcontact some other company to do the CG/Capture/compositing work. Still a nice piece.

"They would subcontact some other company to do the CG/Capture/compositing work." Yep, as hard as they tried to make it look totally guerilla it still looks to me like it was professionally done to make it look that way. Plus Lord knows how much CC work they did to get it to look that dark, blurry etc. and the "Blair Witch" camera work as well - shake it on purpose until the motion makes you sick. Modern cameras just don't produce video that bad even if you don't have a clue what you're doing.
