I wanted to know why some lines are coated or wraped in a plastic sleave and others are not? What is the advantage of the wrap. Thanks

Protect the Spectra line and also to keep the tangles to a minimum. Bare Spectra tangles easily. Maybe more reasons, but I think these are the main ones....

My plastic coated line is junk. After three uses the plastic started to bunch up so bad that you cant pass the handle through your hands without getting cut. I dont recall exactly which one (I will look tonight) but it was around $100.00

Rich - It probably is the Straight Line version. Mine has done the same thing. It doesn't cut my hands and really isn't a problem but it definitely hasn't held up well as far as the plastic coating goes.

Just to throw it out there, my accurate jacket tangles like a beotch, even after I wrap it up properly (big loops, twisting out the figure 8's)

Going by memory (which is pretty much shot) I think it is an Accurate. But I dont want to slam any products without being sure. My straight line that I used (regular spectra) for 3-4 seasons has held up perfectly and when I send it back under warranty I might just ask for a non-coated one instead.

Spectra is very susceptable to abraison and UV damage. The coating is to protect against the elements and wear & tear.

We have a product called Armor Line. It is a 1/8" spectra rope with a plastic coating; it has a tensile strength over 2000 lbs, and our price is much lower than our competitors. We have a clearance for $50.00 shipped. Let me know if you want to purchase one.

Thanks,

I have found that accurate lines are the most durable lines and tangle less if at all. I just purchased the A line and so far so good.

Mine is a straight line not accurate. Based on my experience with plastic coated lines I dont think I'll buy another one.

I have been using the Power Core Bullet line for about three months, and I am very pleased with it, price and durability is top notch...

I have the plastic coated A-Line from Accurate. I've been using it for a year now and have had zero problems. The number one reason (other than zero stretch) I prefer the A-Line over any other rope is that it doesn't burn your hands when sliding through them.

Ken $50.00 is great if for nothing else but a spare. What is the warranty if the plastic does bunch up?

Rich,

Our warranty is 1 year from manufacturer defect. If the plastic bunches up from normal use, I will replace it. I've only had one return this year on the coated rope, and it turned out that this person connected the rope wrong to the eye on the back of his boat: the eye ripped thru the spectra end loop.

Thanks,

I have an straight line coated line and it sucks because the plastic is much thinner than the accurate lines so it gets tangled easier and it feels sticky when letting it out the accurate coated lines are thicker and feel smoother when letting them out and i got a knot in my straight line one and then it just ripped the plastic casue it was so thin but uncoated spectra is not bad after you use it for a season or so then it gets stretched and its really nice but at first it sucks

My Accurate does not have the plastic coating and it tangles very easily unless it is wrapped just right.
