Looking at getting a 2001 PS 205V and would need to add Perfect Pass. I was wondering if it was a hook to paddle wheel or drill job for that year boat. Thanks in advance. Search did not yield any definitive results.

You'll be drilling a hole. In 05 they added throttle by wire with a paddle wheel speedo for their own speed control system. The good news is that PP works great on that boat. Once you get the hole drilled, installation is a breeze.

Thanks J-Rod. I'll put a stop at home depot for a hole saw bit on the to-do list.

There have been a lot of great posts on this. Useful tips.... drill a pilot hole first. I purchase a 12" long 1/4" bit for the pilot hole. Then I scored by hand using the hole saw. Then I taped the hell out of both sides to minimize chipping. I'm sure you thought of this, but you might look at the PP install on an early Xstar or late x2 (2004) to see where the unit was installed. Location effects PP performance and MC had it dialed with that boat. Good luck

another piece of advice, make sure the paddle wheel is located in a spot where a. it is always in the water (on plane or not) and b. isnt going to get broken off by bumps on your lift or trailer!

Paddle wheel went further back that '05 My old X30 had a paddle wheel and it was an '03. Dont know how much further back they were standard though, you'r probably looking at a drill job.

Our 02' X-Star came standard with the paddle wheel, but it also came with PP from the factory.

Our '03 X2 has paddle wheel speedo standard. Pitot tubes weren't on any models that year I don't think. I think that was true in '02 as well.

Thanks for the information guys. I'll check a few x-stars/x-2's to verify the right placement. Ant - Yes, I'll be selling the Silver when this all goes through. It's a great boat, I just need some more room.

Guys, your 02-03 Mastercrafts..... Was the paddle wheel the Perfect Pass paddle wheel????????? Or was the paddle wheel for the actual Mastercraft speedo?

For speedo and PP pickup -- one paddle wheel for both.

I did not originally have PP, but when I installed it, I just had to plug in to that paddle wheel when I took out the speedo. To answer your question, MC used the paddle wheel for all speed information (PP or not) at least as far back as '03

I had an '02 x-7 that had the wheel and no PP. I think that was the first year with the wheel even if you had no PP.

I saw a picture of present X-2 and it has vents / a stepped hull. Where is the wheel located on this model?

Hans, the wheel is located near the center drain plug, ahead of the vents (bad location).

Yeah my 02 xstar has the paddle wheel and PP. I believe this was the first year. MC actaully had difficulty getting my PP to work correctly. It was related to the cable getting wet or something.
