looking at an older model ski nautique...i think it was originaly built as a barefoot boat...in this case does that mean the wake is really small? or is this something that a few fat sacs can fix?

Wakeboarding is at slower speeds, therefore most boats wakes are going to be small at high speeds, even wakeboard v-drive boats. Slower speed, a few fat sacs all around... it would do just fine. We had an 1988 Mastercraft Prostar 190 that was a barefoot/ski boat and the wake was pretty good. Pic of wake attached....
prostar wake 500lb in back and 3 people

The 80's Ski Nautique 2001 puts out a really nice wake for wakeboarding. Load it down w/ 1 full size sac in the back, a full size sac on each side of the motor, and some lead (or whatever) up front...about 300lbs.

The older Barefoot Nautiques have a little deeper V-hull and a 454 engine. They have a very nice "table" for barefoot wake crossing. I have heard that they can make a very nice wake for boarding with proper weight. But they eat a lot of gas.

I have a 89 Ski Nautique that I just love. Great boat for footin and boarding. Wakes a little big and you get spray from the boat on short line slolom.
