Hi all,
I just found a '95 maristar 225 VRS.
Ad says its in great shape, been stored dry for most of its life, and runs good. Includes trailer.
No tower or ballast.
Mainly want to surf, and enough room for several friends.
If everything on the ad checks out, is $11,500 a good deal? I'm no expert, but having watched the market for used boats the past year or so, this seems to be a great deal.

Adding a tower will cost a few thousand at least, more if you get a good one and have it professionally mounted. You'll probably also want perfect pass which is over a grand if you install it yourself. Add another $500-$1000 for ballast. Does it still seem like a good deal compared to what else is out there?

Just doing a quick search on onlyinboards, no mastercraft, nautique, malibu, or supra V drives I found were under $18k, much less 12k.

is a tower necessary for surfing? i would imagine pulling up from the ski pylon would work just fine...

You want a tower to store your surf boards, I had a friend that had one of these boats, and the surf wave wasn't bad for what it is. Could be even better with a suck gate on it. I think that's a good deal. Monster tower $1000. PP $1000.

Red Dog, surf boards cost $500-1000, and they are gonna get damaged in the floor of the boat. Plus who wants them in your way, to each is there own.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad to see there are alternatives to a tower. Regardless, the price of this boat seems to be a good deal. I personally think adding a tower, PP, or ballast would only raise the resale value.

If in good shape, you fix/maintain most things and you leave as is, it's a good deal. If not then the $12k boat rapidly becomes a $20k boat that you can sell later for $13-15k
You will be lucky to get 20-30% of anything you add to the boat.

I think its a great deal you almost never find a V-drive that cheap . I also think you dont need a Tower or PP but holy crap its worth it and it will def help resale value . Also gives you a place to hang speakers down the road . I dont have a tower on my boat at the moment but this winter it will definitely be getting one . Once my kids started wakeboarding I got sick of dealing with boards in the boat real quick . Good luck

Think of perfect pass as the marriage saver. It's necessary in our home.
