Spare tire mounting

Getting ready to install a spare tire on my trailer, SUPRA uses boatmate trailers. I saw the other day someone had there spare mounted on the front crossmember of the trailer under the front of the boat facing upward which I thought was a great idea. Keeps the tire out of the way and hidden.

Unfortunately, I did not take a closer look on what bracket they were using. I have hunted around on the internet and found nothing that mounts the spare in this location. Anyone else have a picure of there spare tire mounted like this? or know where they are selling brackets for this location? I have heard of problems with side mounts and clearance issues when loading and unloading the boat.

Do you mean like this?
I just used a "u" bolt with nuts and washers under the wheel. I've used the same set up on my last three boats, with no problems so far.

I tried mounting mine underneath like that but would drag it across something occasionally. So I tried mounting it on the top but couldn't get it out when the boat was on the trailer. Ended up going with it on the side opposite the tongue wheel & haven't ever had it drag the ground or touch the boat at all. The only exception to that is it's tough to get a polisher inside the tire on the boat.

I've never had mine drag on anything, but I could see how it might on a low driveway approach or something. My truck sits pretty high, and my trailer sits level, that may help the situation in my case. You could still give it a try, U bolts aren't that much $$

Similiar to that but it was mounted on the second crossmember back from the front of the trailer and the wheel was facing upwards. On your trailer it would be between the first and second crossmember in that void space. It did not hang down any lower than the trailer crossmembers.

I like your idea, but I might be a little concerned about hitting something on a steep incline or decline.

Rio Sanger -that's a GREAT idea! The standard side mount bracket at the trailer store for 13 bucks didn't work bc the tire hit the boat -then the next option was an angled tire holder that was 90 bucks. U-bolts have to be WAY cheaper.
