Yo, I know there has been a lot of boring questions about what boat to buy lately but I finally got a buyer for my old nautique and i really need advice for my next boat. I'm looking to buy a MC X5, I have two possibilities, one is from 2003 and has 1200 hours, here's the link :
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mastercraft-X5-2003-yellow_W0QQitemZ330315154989QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_ CarsParts_Vehicles_BoatEquipment_Accessories_SM?ha sh=item330315154989&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms =72%3A1683%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A131 8
(I may have it for 14500 $ which is pretty good for europe) and the other one is from 2001 and has about 350 hours ( for about 19000 $) both are one LPG which is perfect for europe.
Is there a big difference between the 2001 and 2003 ?

I'd like to have a boat with low hours because i got to many problems with my old nautique (but 1200 hours is not that much?)I have to go to england to buy the boat so I can't come back if I have a problem.

I got the 19000 $ but if i can spend less it would be better (because I could buy some other stuff as well)

so i'm pretty stuck....
Thanks a lot

Do they have similar options? If so I would rather pay the extra money and get the low hour boat.

They've been converted to run on propane, malibu.

Most any of us in the USA have little or no experience with engines that have been run on LPG. Typically an engine with 1200 hrs would be at about mid-life. If it was really taken care of, and the boat with 350 hrs was not... then I'd go for the lesser expensive boat. But with typical hours & average maintenance, I'd go for the low hour boat too.

Yeah LPG is use a lot here in europe as the fuel is really expensive (like 1,6$/liter)
yeah the one with 1200 hours seems pretty interesting because of the price but it might maybe be more safe to take the one with 350 hours...

I may be wrong, but I don't think MC made the X5 in '05. I thought they did away with it and produced the X7. Not sure though, and I can't access ebay from work.

It may have a hull number. (year of make will be a part of the number) Int'l boats are kinda dicy on hull id's but it may be stamped. Look for it on the starboard transom

The last MC X-5's were made in 2002. You can tell the year of the boat with the serial number. The last number in serial represents the model year of the boat.

If you can find out the Hull ID (Serial) number you can get a lot of info on the boat. A typical 2002 VIN would look like USMBCAXAA1F102

The VIN breakdown in order is
1,2 = US for origin in United States
3 = M for MasterCraft
4 = B for Boat
5 = C for Company
6 = Engine Type
A = Chevy 5.7 TBI 1:1 -
C = Chevy 5.7 TBI Powerslot -
D = LTR MX 1:1 -
J = LTR MX Powerslot -
T = L18 -
U = LQ9 -
H = L18VRS
Z = LQ9VRS
7 = Boat Type
A = ProStar 190
X = ProStar 197 or X-7
T = ProStar 209 or X-9
2 = ProStar 205V or X-Star
V = MariStar 230 or X-30
U = MariStar 210 or X-10
Y = 19 Skier or X-5
Z = MariStar 230SV
8,9,10 = Sequential numbers, never repeat in a model year
11 = Month Made with A-L designating month
12 = Year Made
1 = Built July through December 2001
2 = Built January through June 2002
13,14 = Model Year

These change a little from year to year but you get the just of it.

I have been posting a lot about what boat to buy lately but I finally found my new boat : a SAN of 2000 with lpg conversion (perfect for europe), ipod connection, with 290 hours, perfect pass, twin axle trailer. I got it for 22000$ I don't think it's a really good price for USA but for Europe it's pretty good...
here's some photos Upload

Can't really tell exactly what kind of condition it's in from the pictures, but it looks good from the pics and 290 hours for a 2000 is pretty low. It's a great hull and will throw a top notch wake, and is a favorite of many.
