Well, I test drove a MB Sports 190 two weeks ago and all was well, except I found out the bilge doesn't work. I bought the boat last night and took it out today. I didn't even get past the bouys before the temperature buzzer went off. I knew right away what it was. I took it home and sure enough, the impeller is toast. How'd this not come up when I test drove it??? Anybody know where to buy a new impeller? Thanks Guys

Bummer. If you bought it from a dealer, I'd be chapped that they didn't change it out for you.

It's really a good idea to check the impeller anytime your not sure about it's condition.

2nd Skidim and buy two. I always carry a spare on the boat. Change it out on the water if needed and keep going.

"always buy two"

Spoken like a true veteran. I never thought of it, till it happened to me. I always have one in the glove box.

Yep, always keep a spare on board. It's especially easy to change if it's a direct drive. Some V-drives are a bitch. Also if it comes down to it you can run your fat sac pump into the block, will keep up with enough RPM to idle back to the launch in a real pinch.

I change mine every spring no matter what. The last thing I want to think about is an impeller. They only cost $30. The longer they are in, the harder they are to get out.

Aren't most impeller's under the water line? How do you change on the water? Trust the bilge pump? I've heard of stuffing a rag, just not sure about the pressure that would be coming in.

Many boats have a seacock before the impeller on the raw water intake.

I have spare belts and an impeller always.

I had a used three times impeller break the other day. I took the pump off and impeller looked fine. Next, I turned the pump to see that the impeller was spinning internally within it's self. A damn defective impeller.

Never had a problem changing the impeller on the water on my MC 205. Probably a bit more of a PITA on the Vride, but only because it's all done blind.

I've never heard of a boat taking on water while the impeller is being replaced.
