What prop are you running with, why and ballast?
Thanks

I ran a 12 pitch ACME at 1140' altitude last year. I'm changing to an 11 pitch for this year.
The engine would not pull full RPM when light and should do that with the lower pitch. With the 12 it did not have a problem launching with 11 people in the boat and front ballast full, but you could notice that it was taking longer as you hauled a boarder up. That was the heaviest I ever ran.
Normally I run pretty light because my kids are small.

I have a V210 with a 350 mag motor. Run a 13x13, 4-blade prop. Works great. Sometimes a little slow out of the water with 8+ people in the boat and pulling a heavy boarder up. Most of the time, though it's just 3-4 of us and the 350 lb. front ballast full.

Might have to go down in pitch once I get another 600-700 of rear ballast which my boys are begging for.

Kenny,

For me, V230-330 Black Scorpion.

Upgraded to Acme 911-3 blade from the stock OJ-4 blade.

Running total of 2500#, boat gets on plane quick, however lost 3-4 mph top end.

We run the Acme 525 (13"x11.5" x 0.8 cup) on the V210. The boat would sink due to excess ballast before not planing up. It is great on gas while riding considering the wake output but really chugs it down if we are cruising any ware. Top speed is around 42-43 with 660 pounds of lead in the boat; but it porpoises above about 35 with the fixed weight in it. Overall the prop is perfect for how we use the boat.

has anyone changed the prop out on the V237 I am am going to be putting a good amount of ballast in one and should have it pretty full of people most of the time.

we to have the acme 911 on our v215 I'd say our boat would also sink before it wouldn't get on a plain. we have 9 batteries plus 14 people (one time) and it got up like a champ.
I would also say we lost more then 4mph top end but who cares its not a racer right?!

Doug, would you mind getting some photos and giving us some feed back on the V237 once you have it loaded up?

Sure, it will not be until the spring, so hopefully someone will have a good guess on how to get the wake and prop right before then.

The 525 works great unless you plan or running 3000lb of ballast or 12 people in boat. I run 1000lb of ballast plus about 6 people and a full load of gear both back lockers full and it gets me up easy so unless you have a ridiculous amount of weight the factory works good Just my 2cents. So unless the boat is having a hard time getting you up spend the $450 bucks on something else.

I have a V215 with stock prop works great with 2000lbs with 8 people. But decided to get a spare prop so I asked AMCE props what to go with had great response from them give them what you are trying to do weight in boat people they will give you some chioces to start with. I went with
525 alittle smaller then stock for surfing, lost about 2 to 4 mile per hr at top speed.

I contact ACME and they recommended for my V215 with between 1500-2000lbs ballast to get the 911. I have the stock and the 525. The 525 is decent hole shot but if I have full ballast (2000) and more than 4 people you can tell the difference. If I get the 911 I will be looking to sell my stock since I won't need 3 props.

I have a V210 with the Acme 911 on it. I can only say good things about this prop. With around 2500 pounds and 4 to 5 people the boat planes in no time. It only took a little of the top end too and not much change in gas.

Kenny do you ever run just the factory ballast of 1000 lbs? If so how would describe the performance, also the size and shape of the wake?
Old     (ghostrider_2)      Join Date: Aug 2004       02-01-2008, 11:21 PM Reply
yes I do, sometimes I just want to goof off. The size is thick, semi solid, not to abrupt. Another words not as thick as the BU, not as solid as the MC but still very solid, and not so abrupt as the Nati but has good kick. Not as wide as the Bu but wider than Nati. I think it is the perfect factory ballast out there. Performance is great but when I add the additional weight and full crew you can tell the difference in the hole shot.

I run the 525 and 2500lbs of ballast. This has been an excellent upgrade from the original. I too contacted Acme but they recommended the 525. I wanted to stay 3 blade because I've read they are better for surfing and this prop provides plenty if hole shot. I have lost a few miles per hour top end but who cares about that.

Kenny - I recommend that you run the numbers. Figure out what your WOT RPM is at what MPH. If you are in your WOT range, then good. Tweak for the hole shot. I personally was running too much pitch, which was affecting my hole shot and top end. Your engine is set up for a specific RPM powerband. If you bias the hole shot too much, you run the risk of over reving your engine when running WOT.

Here are the two threads that I posted on the topic when I was in search of the perfect prop.

I feel that the OJ prop that I purchased is excellent. Eric will be happy to help.

Good Luck!
