What year is the VLX not that it matters? Get the Malibu. The pre2002 tige is a really low profile, flat bottom ski boat. It will be terrible for wakeboarding and is worth closer to 12k even in Canada. The Sunsetter VLX has the same hull as the 2000-2004 Wakesetter VLX unless it is the 2001. In that case it has the diamond(ski) hull. It will still be a better wakeboard boat than the Tige. It is also a Vdrive so has a much nicer seating and storage setup. Depending on the year that may be a little steep on the price of the VLX.

The 2000 Sunsetter VLX has the wake hull and will throw an awesome wake. You may have to put a lot of weight to get a truly pro level wake but I am sure that with 500's in each rear and 500 in the ski locker it would throw a very respectable wake.

what about a 1998 x star from what i have read the 1998 xstar was a direct drive and it is the same hull as a new x1??? is this true and how would it compare to the vlx. this boat is cheeper then both 13500 with 650hrs. no tower or ballest. it would be no problem for me to install that stuff tho

It is a good hull but has very little storage and room. It is a solid boat though. With the same amount of weight as the VLX placed in the correct spots will create a wake as good as the VLX but it means you will have bags all over the floor of the boat. With the VLX it will mostly all be hidden leaving you room for 8-10 people. The VLX will also surf better and is a better rough water riding boat.

As far as I Know the 98 Xstar is nothing more than a Prostar 205 with Xstar graphics.
